Accidents after being spayed Hi Everyone! I recently had Minnie spayed the 4th of November so almost a month ago, she was house trained before being spayed and was always using the pee pad after being spayed she has been constantly having accidents. Is this common? Is there anything I could do? |
It's tough to say whether this in an accident due to something structurally disturbed during the spay and/or if she is just off a bit in her training. I'd start back at the beginning w/ her potty training and re-train... |
OOh OOH! I know the answer to this one except I can't recall the specifics, lol. Did the vet give you any pills after she was spayed to be taken twice a day til they were all gone? Cause i believe they are to prevent bladder infections or kidney infection, one of which is common after spaying if not prevented with those pills. And one of the effects from that is exactly what you are posting about...potty accidents. Take her right back to the vet. Immediately. In fact if you WEREN'T given a Rx for her to prevent that, take her to a different vet. That can be painful for us so I'm sure it applies to them. |
I wasn't given any pills after her spay, they give her through an IV an antibiotic for bacterial infections. |
She needs the vet to check her for a urinary tract infection. If isn't a UTI then, back to basic training. |
I'd only had Piper a few weeks before having her spayed, but had noticed she piddled a little bit, a lot. Thankfully for both Piper and me, after spay, piddling decreased noticeably...But that may have been coincidental. |

Good idea. Let us know how it goes. There is something called spay incontinence which I truly hope she does not have. It is a risk with any spay and not that uncommon. It roughly means during the spay there was damage done and now your gal can't hold her bladder. |
Almost certainly a UTI. We had the same thing happen a couple of days ago and that was the issue. She started peeing in places that she shouldn't even though she knows to pee on the pads. Took her to the vet and got a weeks worth of Clavamox and hopefully all will be back to norm. |

My very had always given a Rx for that very thing to be avoided thankfully. He's like 85 or close to, so I guess he's just like the grandfather of vets and I love him for that. |
I have read that pups sometimes forget their training for a short while because the anesthesia can cause them to be confused or forgetful. Once the anesthesia is fully out of her system, she should go back to normal. ANESTHESIA-RELATED MEMORY LOSS IN PEOPLE AND PETS ETA--this most likely is not the cause because I just saw that she was spayed over a month ago. |
