Beowulf Hardly Barks Beowulf literally barks once or twice a day some days not at all. He is 6 1/2 months, I was so prepard to have a yappy dog when I got him because most little dofs are yappy, but he is just the mellowest baby and so well behaved when I take him out. He does like to bite hands a lot so I like to say he's "all bite and no bark" lol I am actually happy about this because I can take him to the movies if I really wanted too because I know for sure he would not make a peep, but it would be nice if he alerted us if someone was at the door and we didn't hear the bell. All he does is run towards the door. Is anyone elses yorkie quiet like this? |
Chewie usually barks when he is surprised, or defensive. If he is asleep and someone walks in the room or if he hears a loud noise, to quote my sister he screams like a pterodactyl lol. Also, he loves meeting new people but if I don't introduce him, he will yell. Such as someone walking down the street. On the whole though he is one of the quieter dogs we've had. We had a cairn that would bark at absolutely everything. We used to drive with him hanging out the window barking at everyone/everything and watch the looks on peoples faces lol. He even got mad at the wind while hanging his head out the window lol. |

And then he discovered his voice. He now lets people and dogs know when he doesn't like them, barking profusely when we take walks. It's embarrassing :( I've tried re-training him to walk without barking. He has his good days and his bad days. It's funny though, because he barks at some people I also feel questionable when I take him out at night for his last pee. Best wishes to you and hope yours stays relatively quiet!!:p |
Lmao! That is funny. It is actually nice to have a quiet dog. Mine just growls a lot. In those same situations you described the most he would do is growl. |

Good boy Beowulf! Max was quiet for his first 6 months to about a year. Everyone wanted to teach him how to bark, grrr. Then Max found his voice and fell in love with his power. ;):D:p Thankfully he doesn't yap all day or for no reason. My boys mostly bark in the car. It's a game they play.:D |
My boy only barks if a car or something outside trespasses on his territory or if you startle him by creeping around the dark house or sometimes when somebody's leaving! He mainly does threatening puffs mainly but rarely barks |
Piper was very quiet for the first few months (she was 3 yrs when I found her), but as she gained confidence she became more vocal. She is not, however, a "yappy" dog. She responds to knocks on the door quiet vehemently (and convincingly, I might add). For the most part, she's quite sweet, quiet, and observant in most all situations, reserving her tirade barks for my nice neighbors and my landlord (really, Pipe?! geeeezzz)! |
Lol Yess Beowulf is very observant too. Thank you all for sharing. I'm so happy I ordered him a purse dog carrier that comes in today and I can't wait to take him everywhere with me now. I can go to restaurants and nobody will ever know I have my little buddy in my purse. Of course it would help if he stays this calm and quiet forever. |
I'm thinking he'll find is voice soon enough. Enjoy the peace and quiet until then. ;) I like hearing our old guy bark, let's us know he is still kicking it up like a youngster. Our 11 month pom pup, not so much. If our rescue barks, it's time to check the perimeter of the house. He uses his bark only when it's required. Three dogs, 3 very different levels of use. |

Aren't you all lucky, I have a barker. She barks if the wind is blowing, if she sees a leaf, if she sees a squirrel, if she sees a rabbit, if the vaccum is on, if she wants something, if she doesn't want anything, if the doorbell rings. Basically, in her world, everything gets at least one good barking. But the saving grace is, she will shut up if I tell her to shut up.....most of the time. |
This is exactly what my bf and I were expecting when we got him Lol at least she listens when you tell her to shut up. |
