Hi all! Hi all! I have never used one of these forums before. Since becoming Baxters Mom I have so many questions and I find I do a LOT of reading. I hope to be able to learn much from this forum. #1. I see everywhere how to potty train a Yorkie! Baxter is so smart yet so stubborn. I am consistent with pottying. He just chooses when he wants a treat and when he can do without. Any tips are appreciated. #2. He got his shots a week ago and spent 2 days screaming in pain. I did a heating pad and he used a lot. Now he has a lump where he received his shots. Is this normal? #3. When should I take him for his first groom? He was born 7.21.15 #4 I have him on a grain free etc puppy food and he randomly spits up. I think it is because he eat so stinking fast and is so active. Is that normal as well? #5. He has tons of toys for chewing, yet he thinks our hands are chew toys and when he feels like it he is nipping on them. We try and pet and he wants to chew. HELP lol. Thank you all so much! |
Hi - welcome to YT and congrats :)!!! It's not normal that he spent 2 days screaming after his shot - did you follow up w/ the vet? While some soreness from a shot is normal (just like for us), really bad pain is not normal. If it's still tender - I'd really get in ASAP as it could be an abscess. You can groom at home any time, that's what I do as I think it's much safer than a groomer. If you want to use a groomer, then you need to wait until he is fully vaccinated. I would keep a close eye on the spitting up thing...hopefully he will grow out of this. If he doesn't, I'd try a different food... |

I called today. He has an appt Wednesday. She said he could be having a reaction even though he is behaving normally. The screaming part the first day was bad. I couldnt touch him at all. The second day it was better. As for the food I am not sure what else could change. Its already grain free. Thank you for helping! I will update after his appt. |

Update The vet says that he believes it is just a tissue reaction. If it gets larger or isn't gone in 3 weeks to bring him back in and they will have to look more into it. I do believe that the food has chicken pieces mixed. I will change it next time since it is almost gone and do the beef grain free. Thank you guys again! |

So..the vomiting has ceased. We are settled on Purina One, Smartblend, Grain free. The lump on the side has done what the vet said and is almost gone. I am not as worried. Now I have to deal with everything else...the not pottying even though he gets such positive feedback and treats when he does and the biting the hands every time we go to pet..and the just plain doing what the heck he wants to do. |
The potty training takes time and LOTS of patience so hang in there. As for the hand biting... It might become an issue if you keep allowing this. Any time he wants to nip/bite at your hand, yelp in pain. This worked for me the best... |

How are you potty training Baxter? By taking him outside? You may want to put a piddle pad in the house for him. I use a UGO pad, (from Amazon) which has a plastic liner and grate on top, and I spray Nature's Miracle Potty Training Spray in the middle. I have had Lacy for about three weeks and she is 98% potty trained already on the UGO. Good luck, hang in there, it will get better! |
