First time mommy...tips please First time yorkie mommy. will be able to pick up our little girl around christmas depending on weight and things... trying to find a collar that small to take to the breeder.. any ideas on this? going to be using Taste of the wild but the breeder has her on science diet toy breed puppy kibble. one of the pups in the litter is parti...is this ok ? or is something wrong there? :animal-pa |
Why do you need a collar? If it's a must use it as a necklace meaning don't attach a leash it'll cause some problems! |
Kitten harness |
i was just reading some books and it advised to get one early on to start learning how to properly walk.... how do you let them out to use the potty without one? i have no fenced in yard...?????? what kind of problems are u talking about |

ok thanks for letting me know that. any tips as far as what kind of crate is best ? plastic or wire? what toys are best ? |
I don't crate so someone else will have to help you with that sorry...toys anything durable like teddy loves the spiky or squeaky rubber balls and a rope to throw around and eventually play tug of war but as soon as it starts to fall apart throw it out! Just feel the material if it looks easily destroyed don't waste the money! Also teething toys for pups cuz this one will teeth in a few months allow them to chew on it vs your shoes and furniture |
thanks for your help... :) |
Anytime! Tuesday marks my one year with my boy so you'll Learn the most in your first year in my opinion:) good luck and congrats on the baby! |
I use the buddy belt harness but only for training, mine do not go outside potty they go to the Pee Pad area. Would not leave a collar on at all. You want to protect the trachea and the buddy belt the way it is made protects that area, where as a coller fits right over the trachea. There is a member here that sells the buddy belts - you can also find them on Amazon and Chewys.com - When was your baby born and how much is the weight now? |

she should be right at 5 lbs her mom is 5 and dad is 4.2 any opinion on the parti yorkies? she isn't but one in her litter is. |
Welcome Congratulations on your new baby, around Christmas:). Hope the breeder keeps the pup until 12 weeks or older by which time she will have learned a lot from her mom and siblings. Please check out the health guarantee and get your vet to examine the pup as soon as you get her. As for the food, I would keep her on the same food she is on now until she is really settled in before changing food. The babies have so much to cope with leaving their momma and being in a new environment.....one thing you can keep the same is the food. I can't comment on the Parti situation, I am sure some breeder will help you on that question. I hope you will consider getting pet health insurance ASAP as if they do get sick in the future it can get expensive. It is good to get it before they develop any issues that would be considered pre existing. I agree that a collar can be bad for their tracheas and you need to get a harness that protects the throat. You could consider the Buddy Belt or a softer mesh type harness. I suggest you don't pay too much as your little one will soon grow out of it and you will need a new one.:) |
I am a first time Morkie mama. We started with a kitten harness. I finally found a good extra small harness at petsmart for my little 13 wk 2.5lb puppy. You really need to try it on the puppy to make sure it works. Go for easy to clean toys as well if they are going to be in with the pee pads. He loves his little kong toy and a rubber pacifier that was easy for him to squeak. We do have a kitten collar with a bell that we put on him for short periods of time if he is on the floor because he is contantly under foot. But we leave it loose and take it off when he is done running about. We got the plastic type of crate, but it was so hard to clean we just keep him in the pen at night and when we are not actively keeping track of where he is. Potty traini g has been a lot of work and it doesn't help that my boy cant go outside in all this snow. Congrats on the new baby! |
You're definitely in the right place. Just research, research research. Have you read our links for those getting new puppies? http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ent-guide.html |
Right after I posted that reply, Bear had to be rescued from himself. He got a teething ring around his neck. It was easy to take off, but it makes me want to be a helicopter mom!! |
