Thinking About Getting Another Yorkie I'm on the fence about getting another Yorkie. Rambo is 4 now and I worry that he won't accept another dog coming into his house or that his nose will be out of joint. When I sit down he's either on my knee or stuck right beside my leg. My breeder's Parti Yorkie will be getting mated very soon so if I want first pick of a girl I have to let her know in an instant. I'd like to get company for Rambo but I don't want him thinking he's been replaced. Anybody who has more than 1 Yorkie can you tell me how old your first Yorkie was when you brought in a second or third. Or even if anybody thinks Rambo is too old now to tolerate another dog. Thanks. Our Wylie was almost 2 when we got our Marcel...and at first, Wylie was needy, anxious, and insecure when we got Marcel. We just gave some extra attention until he adjusted. About 2 yrs later we got Pfeiffer, who was just immediately accepted. Then last year we adopted our foster chi, Arthur McArthur. We love our little gang! |
Snoopy was about 3 and a half when we got Sally. We took him to visit her a couple of times before she was old enough to come home and he was fine. After we actually got her home, it was a different story! She loves him though, and he's come to tolerate her. We got her for us, though, not him. |
Thanks for all the answers cuz teddy will be around 4 or 5 when I'm able to get another but I think being exposed to other pets should help with the jealousy issue yea? He loves cats I've never really exposed him to dogs though |
Thanks for the replies. |
When we first got Max Yoni took him to work every day. Her boss was fine with this but when the bus complex owner found out he sent out a note saying no pets. So we were going to have to leave Max home alone every day. That is when we got Sasha. They are bro and sis 8 months apart. Now he has someone to keep him company when we are not home. If Rambo is alone a lot then a companion may be a good thing. Each situation, each dog is different. Does he play well with other dogs? |
I had a pack of 3 females, all 3 years apart. I had well socialized girls with ppl and other dogs, my 2 older ones had beautiful temperaments when the 3rd came home the older ones stayed on high grounds (the sofa lol), it took a couple of weeks for the older ones (6 y/o and 3 y/o) to venture to low grounds to re-inspect this furry bouncing ball. They were all BBF, all beautiful, loving girls. Just make sure Rambo is first for everything, first to have his food bowl set down, first to be patted / greeted when they are left alone and you return home, have a safe haven for him when he wants to escape the new kid,a place he can relax. Good luck with your decision. |
Hi Arlene! Very exciting contemplating a sibling for Rambo. If he likes being around other dogs, chances are he will enjoy the company. I have to say though, my 2 boys are not self-entertainers. They are always at my feet, together. :D They do love having one another though. My boys are only 1 year apart. The older, Max, has an 'only child' personality. The boys got along instantly, but we did have an adjustment period as Ann described. We had a little bit jealousy and sorting out eating/sleeping arrangements, but it wasn't bad. Best wishes in making your decision! |
Hello, We have just added another Yorkie to our home. Our Older yorkie is just about 9 years old. Let me tell you what happened in our house...lol.....we brought the little puppy home and Mya( 9years old) did not want anything to do with this puppy...she wanted it GONE....I was a little worried at first, so I phoned a friend of mine, and she said, it will take time, and make sure you (((Feed Mya first, give her hugs first, treats firsts ect))))....it took about 2 weeks and finally she started to slowly play with the pup. Everyday she played with her more and more, and now she is the MOMMY of the house....LOL...she licks her, plays with her and sleeps with her. Frankly, its the best decision I ever made....it has perked her up and I believe, It will lengthen Mya's life.....just sayin.... good luck:) |
