Couplers for leashes Do you use a coupler when you walk 2 or more dogs? Was using a coupler easy for your dogs from the start, or did it require some getting used to? What length coupler do you use? I have friends who love using them, but want to hear more from people who use them. |
I've used a coupler before and thought it was a good idea. Length, I couldn't figure out but I didn't like the dogs too close or too far apart. |

I love using a coupler. For me it is much easier to walk Boomer and Thumper. The leashes do not tangle. The leads are 3 1/2 inches long which I like because living in the city I don't want to give them too much lead room. Below is the link from amazon where I ordered my leash ![]() |
I tried to buy a coupler for my pups harnesses but the d ring on the harness was too tiny for the snaphooks on the couplers i found available. I took their two 3/8"X6' leashes and tied them together with an overhand knot about 18"up- just to see if it was going to work- It has, for over 4 years! Didn't take them long to figure it out. |
Do Max and Teddy walk at a similar pace? A coupler would never work for us bc Uni loves to run ahead to the end of her retractable and Toto loves to dilly dally. I guess I am the coupler! And it's 16' long. Lol |
Thank you everyone for your input. Quote:
They also like to mark things, so the coupler would probably lead to problems. :p I was curious for other people. |
if one is more excitable or erratic on walks, always adjust the lengths so that the excitable one is on a shorter length so they dont yank the calmer one around. I have tried every length and size of coupler and strangely enough i prefer the one designed for bigger dogs because they have a bit more room for personal space and they don't create the chaos that came with the smaller coupler. I have three terrorists and i don't go anywhere without that coupler . I haven't yet figured out how to incorporate a third line yet but Im working on it...lol. Plus it makes for a good tether in the vehicle without using seperate different contraptions to keep them off my lap and contained safely. |
