why does he love doing it inside so much? My puppy never used to poo so much in the house, if we close him in the kitchen he'll go out but lately he'll rather do it in the kitchen! He never does it outside, i take him out regularly but he just pees. I'm really getting mad and impatient now. What should i do???? Please just help me |
If you're getting "mad and impatient" at a tiny, untrained, trying-to-learn, young puppy...then the problem/issue is probably not with the puppy, but with you. He's probably very easily picking up on all that negative emotion toward him. I wonder how long it took you to become potty trained...? Puppies are *babies* and they take time to learn, develop, absorb. I'd suggest you re-read the potty training stickies in the General Training section. |
Deep breathe, remember to exhale.....then....extra love, extra patience, repeat. |
If he never poops outside, you might want to buy a UGO potty for indoors, and train him to go on that. The way I am training Lacy, is I go over to the UGO potty, and once she stands on it, I say POTTY, and give her half a cheerio. (No, I am not being mean, but she only weighs 2 pounds, and I do this 20 times in a row, so that is 10 whole cheerios!) lol Now, all of a sudden, the UGO is her friend, as she stands on it and gets a cheerio. I do that over and over again. I only started doing this 2 dye ago, and now when I say POTTY, half the time she goes right over to the UGO and stands on it. I am sure in a couple more days, she will immediately stand on it when I say POTTY. Last night, when she had to pee, she went over to the UGO and peed on it. I was thrilled. Not sure she will poop on it, but time will tell. |
Yorkie puppies can take some time to train. How old is he? Make sure you are taking him out often. Could be that he isn't getting outdoors at the time he needs to go, or he isn't spending long enough outdoors. Puppies can also feel vulnerable when pooping. Maybe he is feeling more comfortable indoors? Make sure he feels safe outdoors and has ample time to do his business. |
Sometimes it takes a longer walk to stimulate the senses so to say... They have to do a lot of sniffing and a lot of peeing and then eventually they will poop... Try to take them back to the same spot after they have done it and they usually repeat the action. Just make sure he's not too young to walk far and he's vaccinated... You could also do laps... Back and forth in the same area and eventually he will go. Try plan it after a meal or when you he think he may be ready to poop... And then be consistent... Take him out after every meal and then it will become routine. |
I had heard that some dog owners swear by the training method of putting doggy diapers on their dog, and then taking the diapers off for only when the dog is outside. I've never tried it but apparently some dogs won't go in the diaper so it makes it so they'll only ever go when they're outside without the diaper on. After awhile outside is their preferred place to go. So maybe that's something you might want to try. Id also say that a potty schedule is probably the most important aspect of housetraining. |
Give alot of praise. Make a huge fuss over him going outdoors. Positive reinforcement is key to training your baby. Be patient. And remember don't yell at him. |

OP try walking your pup. Sometimes walking your pup is enough to get things moving. Also, some pups are picky about their "spot." It's a bit frustrating when you're in a rush, but that's why you gotta plan ahead. I have to make the time to walk Kaji to give him enough time to choose his poop spot. It can take anywhere from 2-15 mins for him. Frustrating but, he needs his space and time. |

Patience and consistency during training is key. |
Ok, here's how it goes. Inside for 10min. Outside for 30. LOL. Really, that's about what it was like training mine. He does really well now. Last poop in the house was when he was 8 months, he's now almost 11 months. The strangest thing is... When we go for walks a lot of times he will poop in the road. Go figure?? We live on a very small street. When he decides to squat there's no stopping him. I'm trying to break him from this, but what to do?? 💩 |
