Christmas Trees This is my first Christmas having my little yorkie Minnie. I always get a real tree, I was wondering if it was safe to still get one? |
Maybe? Mostly bumping for you. :) When we moved to a house (vs an apt) I wanted to get a real tree. I was outvoted. Everyone thought Kaji would think it's his personal indoor toilet. I see their point. Kaji loves marking trees. |
I always "fenced" my tree off with an x-pen ....keeps them away from the gifts and the low branches and ornaments and tensil....as well as drinking that contaminated water the tree sits in.... |
last year was Buddybear's first Christmas and I didn't put one up even though we have a small fake one. I just decorate with quilts etc. |
Watch cords and light strings, I get on the floor and lay up under mine to make sure I have no cords or lights hanging that would be enticing to the fur kids. All my trees are artificial, so not sure on dangers of real trees, but agree with Yorkiemom1, the sappy tree water wouldn't be healthy I don't think. |
We do not do trees here but I am wondering what others will answer about it. The fencing of the tree seems to be the very sensible thing to do. Blessings . Xoxo |
Thank you for all of the help. The fencing around the tree seems like a great idea, possibly might just end up getting an artifical tree. |
I am worried about this one too! I might have a half decorated tree lol |
This is my first Xmas with my baby too. Should be interesting to say the least! |
We have a plastic tree he was a puppy so minor cord damage to our singing decoration last year but he's over cords this year so just remember keep cords up and probs presents (on Christmas I taught him how to rip wrapping paper now he shreds any paper) see how the pup reacts to presents first though cuz mine had no interest in it as a pup! Idk anything about real trees though but have a great season it's one of the most enjoyable firsts! I got my baby about a week before thankgiving last year so everything was super exciting! |
I'm very excited for her first Christmas! Minnie doesn't have any interest in cords but she LOVES opening presents, I will probably have to keep them up. Thank you everyone for all of the advice. |

Very interesting ... Good thinking ! Xoxo |
We get a real tree every year. The only problem we have is the dogs always drink the water out of the dang tree stand! |
I would say that there are hazards with a tree real or fake but primarily with the decorations. The water from a real tree could pose an additional hazard though, when trees are shipped out of state they are often required to have some notable chemical treatments, also many people include bleach in their tree water. We get a real tree every year, tree farming is an important part of oregons agriculture. Lilah has never messed with our decorations or tried to drink the water (but it is typically recessed in the stand) but as I write that, and it is true, I am realizing how weird that is. She is not a rascal at all and I guess j am just very lucky. I suppose perhaps scritching through the base of piny needle covered branches just never seemed like the thing to do in her eyes, lol. |
