First thing you must do, if you have not done yet, is call a good licensed vet and schedule a "wellness" check ASAP. It is like a pediatrician for a puppy, you want to have someone to coach about vaccines, routine care and the eventual unexpected question or help if an incident happens. You also will feel secure about the puppy's health care. For now, at 8 weeks old, the puppy should be free fed, meaning, have access to food and water all the time. This helps prevent "hypoglicemia", a concern on small breeds. One way to keep track of the eating of your pup is every morning measure one cup of the dry food, put it into the bowl, next morning put the left over back into the measuring cup, you will know the days your puppy eats more or less. Now, this is if you are feeding dry kibbles. Some days puppies eat more, some days less, and the weight of your puppy also affects the feeding need / ratio. Enjoy your new baby ! Blessings . Xoxo |
Welcome to the group and big congrats on your new little Yorkie! In regards to how much she should be eating, my vet told me that 3 month old Lacy should have between 130-200 calories per day. When you take your pup to the vet for a wellness exam, ask how many calories your pup needs. It's better to know the number of calories, instead of say, ¼ cup because ¼ cup of dry food will be much different in calories than a ¼ cup can food. |
I took coco to vet today he said to free feed her also none of her shots she had done from pet store were any good she was to young I'm so mad not because the store lied but cuz now my baby has to go back thru it all again I'm having the hardest time potty training her any suggestions |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk and congratulations on your new puppy! Quote:
Potty training -- since she is so young, I would uses piddle pads and restrict her freedom to a smallish area with the pad. Yorkies can be notoriously difficult to train, and at 8 weeks, I recommend a lot of patience. Reward and praise profusely when she gets it right. |
Goodmorning I have a question I have been feeding my yorkie puppy food with chicken she's licking and biting her hind legs I did research and it may be a allergic reaction to chicken my question is what is a good puppy food others have used I want her to stop itching and there's so many out there any help would be appreciated she's 10 weeks old |

Also wondering - have you checked for fleas etc.? Just to let you know - Harry :aimeeyork was very itchy/twitchy/scratchy when we first brought him home....it soon wore off, once he settled into 'our ways' and relaxed into his new home ;) :D xx |
What kind of puppy food do you use I'm using precise and mixing in baby food chicken the vet told me to do this otherwise she doesn't eat the dry food I feel so bad she didn't do it the first couple of days but now its bad thank you I don't know how to help her and yes I checked for fleas none |

When Harry :aimeeyork was tiny ( 12 weeks @10lbs...) we worried about anything/everything after our Labradors etc...for us he was teeeensy! ;) We fed Harry Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier Puppy kibble - never looked back - we use that as his 'go to' dried food....but you'll get masses of other responses, too...and all of them are brilliant in their own way, and to the mums + dads!!! :D xx |

It can be The food too, if that is The case there are many God options, We have Never dealt with food allergies but home cooking can be a good option if you are committed and have the time to do it, or foods that are grain free, only lamd, with food allergy you will most likely need to do some "try and see" until you find one that works well. Blessings. Xoxo |
Welcome to YT and congratulations on your new baby. When you took her to the vet did you take a fresh stool sample to be tested to see if she has worms. |
