Puppy shopping spree My baby is coming home at the end of the month and I want to get started on my shopping. What are your favorite things for your fur babies? What are must haves?! From basics to extra fun and cute stuff ! |
Congratulations! Essentials: xpen, piddle pads (maybe baby gates and crate too depending on your home/training) food and water bowls comfy bed comb and brush (see Mimimomo's site toplinepet.com) baby toothbrush small clippers (I use a mustache trimmer to tip ears) notebook binder to keep essential documents like vet records harness -- this one is tough because you need to know your pup's exact measurements. If really small, you can start with a kitty or ferret harness. |
I use the Iris pad holder and get washable pads which are much cheaper you don't have to empty a tray and are reusable, plus they can't eat them. Have gotten the Buddy Belt for harness and a leash, puppy food, treats, Nutri-Cal, toys - chew toys, love the Iris Pad Holder - you can find it on Amazon - it folds in half, so if you have a male and are inside, he won't spray the wall. It comes in two sizes, I got the larger one so they can hit it pretty good. Recently got a Puppy Training Pet Apartment - PTPA - and so far so good. I also got a stroller. |
Also Pet Insurance !!! |
a good harness and leash. A really good soft blanket. and if you give the pup a bath, be sure to toss the towels in the dryer for a few minutes before. The little guy will love that. |
What to buy????? Treats and blankets and cloths and food bowls and play pen and stroller and toys and more toys and anything that looks fun and shampoo and little baby face cloths and coats and boots and get my drift just everything that looks fun and useful LOL I bought all kinds of stuff for Bella and still do I love it. |
When puppy shopping for clothes buy cheap stuff in the baby's first year then next season you can splurge cuz this baby will grow a lot this winter! But yea they already listed the essentials you'll need them all I promise! But I love buying clothes and any toy on sale (my boy gets bored and sneaks off and shreds them even squeaky toys) but splurge on a few durable toys like a teething toy (trust me you'd rather baby chew something rubber and fun vs your furniture or shoes) and anything cutesy! And if it's a girl baby invest in some bows (I really want another baby just so I can get a girl with tutus and bows) |

Here is a great thread in the Yorkie Talk library for new puppy parents: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pup...w-parents.html The list for essentials includes items to puppy-proof your home for safety. |
This will be my fourth attempt to post this, hopefully nothing goes wrong with the computer this time and no double posts :) Chew toys for teething. I use nylabones, and for toys in general westpawdesign.com sells all American made products including beds and blankets as well. I found a 2x small harness at petsmart for my baby, don't know how small your puppy will be though! I love this blanket. I don't know if it is actually self-warming but it does get significantly warm. It's so nice I use it sometimes lol! My little guy seems to like it as well haha. (Pawslife Warming Pet Blanket - BedBathandBeyond.com) As already stated, fine toothed comb and a brush, nail clippers, scissors, tooth paste and tooth brush, and possibly de-matting spray. Puppy pads are great even if you are not training with them, I put them in my puppy's pen in case he has an accident. Also when he has spit up I grabbed one and put him on it, very easy clean up. I just love little hoodies! Petsmart, PetCo, etc., seem to have a ton of them, for boy or girl. I'm sure they are easy to find elsewhere too. I think winter hats would be adorable as well, they have some on petco.com and I saw some at Pet Supplies Plus in store but I don't know if that comapny is in more than one state or not. If it gets cold where you live, boots and socks lol! The socks I bought for my doggie just to get him used to having something on his feet, but they are captain America and super cute on him. I found them at petsmart, as well as these boots. (Top Paw® Hard Sole Outdoor Dog Bootie Set | Shoes & Socks | PetSmart) He is 2 pounds at almost 6 month and I got the 2x small for him. I think a baby gate or play pen is a great idea, they are good jumpers and can wiggle through tiny gaps and I have learned home made barricades don't work very well lol. Kennel for bed time and quiet times. All I can think of right now :) |
