Yorkie Adoption / Breeder(s) Just out of curiosity, where and how did you get your fur baby?:animal36 |
I saved and saved and saved and finally I had $500.00 hidden away....this was back in 1978....I was married at the time and my ex husband would spend any money he could get his hands on, on stuff that HE wanted.....and yes, idiot in love that I was, I put up with that crap! and worked 8-12 hour shifts too!!....I went all the way out to Conroe I think it was...I think I remember the name of the breeder but I dont want to say who it was, I found out years later she used to be on this site!.......the first baby I got, died on me with 3 weeks.....I squalled and cried and begged and pleaded with her to refund my money as the pup had died of a "congenital malposition of internal organs"......she finally said she would let me pick another baby, but no refund....I drove all the way out there and a tiny little adorable precious baby stuck to me like glue.....but she wanted 500.00 MORE for this baby.....I did the best thing I have ever done, I went back home and found ham radio equipment and car tools hidden in the garage my sneaky, lying husband had bought and hidden from me in the garage, I sold it to a mechanic at the corner service station for $1000.00 and went and bought my little dog! THAT little dog lasted 4 months, then became desperately ill and died....the emergency vet clinic was so distraught over the loss of that tiny little dog, THEY paid for the autopsy at A&M because they had never seen anything like it and they were desperate to know what had happened....THAT baby had a twisted mesentaric artery, and as the baby grew, blood supply was cut off from internal organs.....well, needless to say, that breeder was offering me ANOTHER dog, no money back, but I wouldnt have gotten another dog from her if she had paid ME to take one. THAT was when I decided I would breed Yorkies so I could supply people HEALTHY babies that would not die on them, breaking their hearts....and from 1978 until 1998, I studied and absorbed everything I possibly could, taking classes, attending seminars, working with vets for free just to gain knowledge, meeting and associating with breeders, learning from people that were well established breeders, how to do this right, etc......So all my babies (pets) are bred by me, for me....and I know they are healthy, well adjusted, beautiful, and will live long healthy lives.... |
Kiddo has been begging for a small dog to sleep with her for about a year. We visited my sister and mother, four states away, and they both had two small dogs each, so her desire increased exponentially. Two days after we got home, we went to a fairly close pound and found Mario. After having him for a month or so, I decided he had a great disposition for a service dog for kiddo, so now he is a service dog in training. Mario appears to be a Yorkie/mini schnauzer mix. |

We actually went through a breeder both times for getting a yorkie. Reason why 1. I had a small child with my first yorkie and rescues often don't want to adopt to such a family and 2. I wanted a puppy. The first breeder wasn't 100% great but I got a great dog, he died prematurely however due to a neurological disorder. So after grieving, waiting and then researching a breeder more, put our family on a waitlist and got a phone call about a year and half after our first yorkie's death. Emma came from a show breeder in GA and I'm so happy we waited and were selected as her new pet parents. |
Wylie from what I now consider a BYB. Marcel from a show breeder. Pfeiffer from a YT breeder. Arthur (chi) from the shelter where I volunteer. |
Izzybear (and my precious Marley) from friends who's dogs had beat them to the punchline right before scheduled to get fixed I just found out. Toby I bought secondhand from neglectful owners And Madlyn from the daughter of a breeder that had retired and passed the tradition down. The daughter found she couldn't stand to dock the tails so she said she wouldn't be breeding any more. So far all are in excellent health! And all were bought in New Mexico. |
Cody was a gift to me from my vet 6 weeks after having to put down my 17 y/o girl. Cody came to my vet from the rescue team she works with, he was 2.5 y/o owner was sending him to a kill shelter due to owner did not know of rescues and re-homing. Cody was relayed from NY to Pa. His HUGE ears reminded my vet of my beautiful Matese, when my vet saw him she told her techs to get me on the phone, she said this is Joan's dog. Although I didn't want anymore dogs, losing them had become to over whelming for me, out of respect and to appease my vet for thinking of me, I went to "just see the dog" knowing I would never take a male dog I knew it was safe to just see him and leave. When I saw this little guy greeting all the workers that came into the lunch room my heart went out to him, how could anyone surrender this little boy, I knew I could give him a good and happy life and try make up to him for his prev. owners giving him away. Thursday the 12th wil be 2 years Cody and I are a team. I am blessed to have this little boy. |
We got our first yorkie, Dixie, back in early 1997 when she was 7 months old. We got her from some friends that were hobby breeders. It took awhile for Dixie to adjust since she had never been around other people that much. After a few months she became my little shadow and she won our hearts. Dixie passed away in 2012; she was just over 16 years old. She will always have a big place in our hearts. I do have her great grandson, Dillon, who is twelve and others that are related to my precious Dixie. :) |
Barney from a breeder, probably a byb. Anna from a shelter. Willie from a friend who no longer could care for him. |
Toni found the breeder on the AKC website. With everything I have learned from this site I consider this breeder to be a BYB that I would never buy from again but I would not give up these babies for a million dollars. So I am forever indebted to this woman while at the same time she makes my stomach turn. This breeder is actually trying to GIVE us a 3rd yorkie. I'll start a thread on that when I get some time. |
1989 Eve -first yorkie from breeder with good lines. Bree- from show breeder with compassion Beamer- from very good breeder Lyn Lyn -from show breeder Tosh - from show breeder with unethical practices. Tova - same as above Tassel- retired show breeder with heart! |

Wow!!! I am so sorry that you went through such a horrible time with your first Yorkies. Bless you for wanting to breed healthy Yorkies in spite of all that. |
My three all had good homes where they were loved and well taken care of, but circumstances became such that each needed another home...and I just happened to have a forever home with tons of love just waiting for each of them. :D |

Furbaby Love I got my little furbaby from a family that was going to give her up..... I drove over 200 miles to retrieve her before sending her off... Glad I did! She has made a difference in my family. |
I google searched Yorkie puppies for sale in the bay area for months and I finally saw an ad on Ebay with the cutest puppies with thick coats which is exactly what I was looking for. I'm not sure if the breeder I got Beowulf from was a byb but the parents were registerd with AKC however she gave me papers to register him with NAPR. Had a one year health guarantee contract. Gave me some daytime and night medicine for heartworm and hypoglycemia. I paid $1,200 for him. We were supposed to take him to her for his last parvo shot and our refrigerator broke down that day and I called her 30 min before we were supposed to meet her to let her know we couldn't make it and she was upset because she had already mixed the medication and it would go to waste if she didn't use it. She said I paid for this what are we going to do? He needs his shot within the next 3 days. I called her the next day, no answer. Both my boyfriend and I called her the day after, no answer. I left her a VM and she never got back to us. So we never heard from her again, but thankfully we have a healthy happy baby so far and no need to contact her anyway. :D |
