At Vets due to Vomiting and Pooping w/Blood Had my dog in hospital past two days testing pancreas and stomach x-rayed... as anyone else had this issue with their dog? At first my 11 month old was vomiting and had diarrhea wasn't til we got to vet that she started to vomit again with blood and stool had blood in it. Currently, they have her with IV catheter injection with meds for pain and naussea. Any comments or others with this problem in the past? :animal36 |
YES! I had that exact same issue with Zoey around that same age! Vets could NOT figure out what was wrong. Had her at the vet for few nights. They wanted me to get an ultrasound done on her. Sent her home with me b/c they felt she was well enough and might be more comfortable at home. Next day, she brightened up quite a bit... So I decided to wait a day for the ultrasound. She was back to normal from then on. Took her back to the vet and explained what happened. They did another thorough check on her. Everything came back NORMAL. None of the vets could provide a clear explanation except "guess it was just one of those bump on the road....". She will be 5 years old on the 7th and healthy as an ox! |

Thank you ..... I'm hoping this isn't a norm for her. :animal-pa |
I've had this happen with Jezebel. A late night trip to the emergency vet. Blood tests ruled out pancreatitis. They gave her something to settle her stomach, antibiotics, probiotics to take while on the antibiotics, a few cans of prescription food, and sub-q fluids because she was a little bit dehydrated. Brought her home and there was no further vomiting or diarrhea, but she didn't feel like eating until the next afternoon. Hasn't happened since. |

I'm also considering pet insurance, but I'm not sure at this point if it's worth it and what's covered under "pre-existing condition". |
Bubba had bloody stool and vomiting seval years ago. Spent several days in vet hospital and was diagnosed with HGE (hemmorhagic gastroenteritis). They never found out the cause but with meds and diet he recovered. I hope she is home soon. |

Same thing happened to Bella in her first year she was so small we had given her a new brand of bully stick that she ate in a matter of 2 hours. It took a week and 2000 $ to get her back to health I bought pet insurance right away so I would never have to worry about the cost of getting her heathy again. Looking back as well as the vetting I would have try Pepto as well to coat the intestinal track. I think it would have got her better faster. I use it at the first sign of upset very small doggy dose. Hope all is well soon hugs from Bella and I |
I would've been happy with a 2K bill. My bill for Zoey was close to 5K... -_-; I'm extremely grateful that she's okay but... I would've like some sort of explanation for her illness! |

I have went ahead and purchased pet insurance; just in case this type of thing or worse happens in the future. Better safe than sorry. |
I still get bully sticks for Bella ( she loves them and they keep her busy ) but I am much more careful of what I buy. Barkworthie is a very good brand but I cant get it in canada. I stay away from anything that is really dark in colour I think they put something on them. US and Canadian only. |

I get the thick 12". After Magnus gets it all soft and soggy, Zoey steals it. LOL |
Back to Vet? Might be taking my furbaby back... starting diarrhea again and so I continued her meds as instructed by doctor, but she's throwing up clear foam now. Maybe meds were to strong even though it's for naseau? |
