Teeth brushing Options please. My 9 month old WILL not tolerate teeth brushing. I have tried everyday since he was 14 weeks. Started with finger then pediatric brush, finger brush. It's like pulling teeth! Last few times I have went back to using my finger. He tolerates this much better. Do any of you think this will work for keeping teeth clean?😄 |
I understand the struggle. You can try using medical gauze (the white bandage type that has a little roughness to it) wrapped around your finger. It's good for gently massaging the gums and gumline where tartar begins to accumulate. Use a yummy toothpaste too. My boys like the CET poultry and vanilla mint (I think that is what it is). |

I have heard of gauze. I'll try that tonight. Guess I need to moisten it? |

Everyday is the key and treat when done. May take one month may take a year but they will give in. Works better then anything ime. Can't beat brushing the teeth for keeping them clean. Because it also keeps the gums healthy. additives wont do that |
what flavor tooth paste do you use? |

I used the gauze last night and he did somewhat better. Of course he wanted to chew it. After the gauze got all slobbery I unfolded it and rubbed it back & forth like floss. I hope this way will keep down the bacteria. I also use CET. Time to order more. Where do you get yours? Petsmart doesn't sell it, so I have ordered from Petmeds, pricey with shipping. Thanks a bunch for your replays.Rugers mom. |
Non Brushing Woes My dog hates brushing.. I will try this as well.... I try, but I'm always afraid one day she will bite me :aimeeyork |
I brushed Beowulf's teeth yesterday for the first time using the CET poultry paste and he liked it. I'm so happy he's such a mellow little guy he lets me do just about anything.:) |
My pup did not like to have her teeth brushed but I was tenacious. Now anytime anyone in the family goes to the dentist and they don't want the tooth brush the dentist always offered (because they use the electric toothbrushes) I have them get me that baby/child brushes. I push the tooth paste deep into the bristles, let her have a whiff of it and she gets so excited chewing in the bristles she kind of ends up brushing her own teeth. Someone else on YT clued me into this method. Then I top it off with a bit of manual brushing from me that she is fine with tolerating at that point. Got to watchmthat they don't eat the bristles, but mine does not chew that hard. The brushes do not last long though, so the family and dentist keep me supplied for free :D |
I brush all my dogs teeth daily. Teddy has very clean teeth with no tartar but he is going to have a dental procedure to get under the gums and do X-rays, along w/ a biopsy of a mass in his mouth. My dogs used CET vanilla mint as well, but since that product became difficult to locate recently, a friend told me about another product and I happen to like it much better. My dogs like the taste and I think it freshens them up nicely. It's called Arm and Hammer clinical care vanilla ginger dog toothpaste and I purchased it online on Petsmart. I like the container it is in too. ARM & HAMMER Clinical Care Vanilla Ginger Gum Health Enzymatic Gel Dog Toothpaste | Toothbrushes & Toothpaste | PetSmart |
Hmmm I should give that one a try when I run out of the cet poultry. I need to get my baby's teeth pulled soon his breath stinks and I just started brushing his teeth last week one of the two very back top teeth have tartar on them and I can't get that off with the teeth brushing I feel like maybe I should have started earlier he's 7 months I thought I'd wait till all his baby teeth fell out but that didn't happen for him. I have to get them pulled out. My poor babe's. After I brush his teeth I give him one of those CET dental bone chews those seem to help his breath some. |
My dogs accept coming onto the grooming table to be told they're wonderful while having their hair combed out and teeth brushed. I use the smallest child size tooth brushes I can find with Petzlife gel. Brushing their teeth definitely makes a difference in their veterinary dental cleanings.:) |
Both of mine love the CET vanilla mint". So much so that they even enjoy licking the brush after brushing to get every bit of the flavor off. Maybe if you just try putting the toothpaste on the brush and letting him lick it he will get more comfortable and begin to allow you to put the brush in his mouth. That's how I started mine off. |
