Puppy Treats I just got a new puppy. What type of treats do you guys give that are healthy? |
Hi, welcome and congrats on your new pup! I give carrots, Cheerios, cheese, sweet peas and green beans, I do on occasion give just a tiny bit of cottage cheese. I am sure others will respond and give you some more ideas :) |
Do you mean like training treats or chew/play treats? |
Sometimes I'll give cheerios, carrots, small apple slices. Occasionally I'll give him tiny pieces of cheese or shredded boiled chicken. |
Thanks for the replies! I mean training treats mostly. Do you give treats for play too? Can you explain what you mean because that sounds fun. Thanks. |
Treats I love The Cloud Star range of treats. They have good quality ingredients and my dog loves them. They tend to be small, some hard and some are soft and chewy. I use the Chewy Liver treats for 'just treats' and training. You can break the soft ones up even more, especially useful for training so they don't get fat, LOL! Hope you can find the ones that your dog loves. |
I usually give snack treats but occasionally a little bit of training treats are used. I would use treats that I don't often get for my girl to train her as she'll be more inclined to listen for something she doesn't always get (and whine more lol) Otherwise her snacks can range from lettuce, carrots, boiled chicken, some fresh cooked rice (cooled to body temp of course :)..), strawberries, and sometimes I cook/make their treats. On a very few occasions, it'll be a little dab of junkie/guilty pleasure food, like a few licks of icecream (like vanilla or a popsicle), a dab of whip cream from the can, or a fortune cookie (sans the fortune lol). |
K.i.s.s. The old acronym K.I.S.S. fits I guess! Keep it simple stupid :D It sounds like most of you just use little bits of healthy foods you have in the house instead of running out to buy stuff. Sounds like a plan to me. Duncan's going to the vet for his 10 week check up and another shot and I'll double check if he can have a little bit of treats. thanks for the tips:aimeeyork |
For training - I use a sliver of Stella's Duck Duck Goose - freeze dried patties, (also use this to enhance their food) and lately when I am trying to train one of my babies that is a little stubborn, am using very thinly sliced turkey from the deli and give her very small bites - she actually gets more of a smell then she does a bite of turkey. Also use the soft Buddy Biscuits in bacon/cheese flavor. |
