Scoobstersmom | 10-25-2015 02:03 PM | When you consider that Maggie could be in treatment one year - two years - five years - up to the rest of her life -then ten months is not long to be on meds for Valley Fever. Has Maggie seemed ill, ran a fever, been recently vaccinated? Anything that might have lowered her immune system could cause an increase in symptoms and titer. Then again, maybe Maggie just strained a muscle or pulled something, and this soreness isn't even related to Valley Fever. When one has a dog with a chronic illness, it is easy to blame the condition for every little thing that goes wrong.
Medication (Fluconazole) is helpful in the treatment of VF in that it stops the growth of the fungus, but it takes a strong immune response from your dog's own body to overcome this nasty fungus. Anything you can do to keep her otherwise healthy and to boost her immune system is beneficial. When my dog was in treatment for Valley Fever I gave him colostrum every day. Also a good multi-vitamin supplement, denamarin to protect his liver, MSM, fish oil, Vitamin C, Pet Tinic which is a B vitamin plus iron supplement. He also got olive leaf and oil of oregano tinctures, both of which are natural antifungals.
I hope Maggie just had a strain or pulled muscle and is already feeling better.
