Male Or Female, Help! Hey guys!....So I am having such a hard time deciding if I should for a male or female, I see a lot of people say its a personal preference and I have read both pros and cons of both genders, and specifically that Males are much more affectionate compared to females. But I just don't know to do and its driving me nuts! lol....To make things worse, as typical with Canada compared to US, US gets everything and Canada hardly gets as many things as US has generally speaking. But in the case of dogs also, I have been searching and searching these past weeks and its so hard to come by Breeders, in US you can find a breeder in every corner lol.' Thanks guys! |
Male or female, I love them both! I would say go into a breeder (when you find one) with an open mind and pick the puppy that you like best and don't worry about gender. For ladies, a male dog will worship her and be in love with her. For guys, a lot of them find a female dog to be their best match. However, my husband adores our male puppy and the puppy loves him like crazy. The female puppy we have is technically our daughters but it lives with us. She loves my husband. When he comes home they both go running to the door to give him kisses on his beard. I would say she is more affectionate toward him in that situation, but our male puppy will spend more time loving on him later in the evening. I will take either. We have a 5 year old male English Setter (my husband's dog) and an almost 10 year old male yorkie that I took in 10 months ago who is strictly my dog. He does not listen to anyone else in the house. He does not love on them. He is my dog and only mine since the day I brought him home. He will mope about until I get home even if the rest of the family is home. We were given a puppy, pick of the litter. I let my daughter pick the puppy and it is her puppy. We went in with an open mind but she took one look at the last puppy in the litter born and declared that one as hers. My husband and I tried to get her to at least consider the little male puppy that was a different color from his litter mates because he was such an awesome color and she was dead set on her puppy. My friend talked to me 2 weeks before we picked up my daughters puppy to ask if we would consider taking the small male puppy as she was having trouble finding him a home because his coloring was different and I had liked it from day one so she knew I would love him. We brought them home and it has been amazing! I adore my daughter's girl puppy. Everyday when my daughter goes to school I come home from dropping her off and her puppy just lays on me and snuggles for about 20 minutes and then she is off and playing. My puppy is the world to me and he plays with his sister but as soon as he is tired he runs to me and curls up against me and goes to sleep. He is my boy. So, if you are open to either, just pick out the puppy you like and love it. I promise you it will work out either way. :) Some people are dead set on a boy or a girl and then they miss out on a potential perfect match for them. My daughter's puppy matches her perfectly. Sassy and loving and fun, just like my daughter. My puppy is a perfect fit for me, he is cuddly and loving and adorable. He makes this face at me when he wants something, like pouting almost. He is the only one of the 3 Yorkies that does it. It just melts me. I wake up in the night and he is curled up in my arms or nestled against the small of my back. He is a perfect fit for me. |
We choose a pup based on its personality and healthy appearance, not based on gender. I think in the long run, you will be happier if you use these as your criteria rather than gender. |
I am partial to little boys, but I think JadeD & Mayzoo gave great advice! Good luck and congrats! |
I'm partial to boys too! @JadeD gave great advice! Good luck and will be waiting to see pictures of your future puppy. :) |
I have a boy and a girl and I love them both but my boy can do no wrong in my eyes lol. He is my cuddle buddy and such a sweetheart. My girl is more on the hyper bratty side and she does NOT like to cuddle at all. It all depends on what your looking for in a puppy but I have always had better luck with my boys. |
Buddybear, a boy, was the last of the litter, but I fell in love instantly. He likes to cuddle in my DH lap and will stay for hours. Dh lets him lay there but I'm the more cuddle, kisses etc so I think he prefers DH, which makes me Jealous!!! Buddybear will curl up next to me in my chair and has fits when I go shopping with out him, according to DH:confused:.....sometimes I think he is almost telling fibs. It's hard to tell who's his favorite sometimes. If I ever had pick of the litter, I would go crazy seeing who liked me best etc. |
I was in the same position as you a month ago, Thought I would only get a girl, but then heard so many people say that their boys were more loving, so I decided to take the easy way out. Get a girl AND a boy! Will be getting them next week, a sister and brother. You have great advice from the other members, go and look at some puppies and chose the one you fall in live with, regardless of gender. You will know which puppy is right for you when you meet him. :-) |
I love them both, but my boys are probably a tad more cuddly and affectionate. |
I have always had girls, so I am partial to girls. In a few weeks I will have had my first boy for 2 years that I adopted when he was 2 y/o. Honestly I see no diff. between male or female being more affectionate. My girls were devoted to me,loved being cuddle, kissed, fussed over and needed to be near me. Go see puppies, you will fall in love with one, gender really does not matter, it is the personality of the pup that you should be more concerned about rather then the sex of the baby. You will not be disappointed in either male or female. Good luck in finding that perfect baby. |

I love both so sadly I will not be much help . I say get one of each .. :D |
I live in an all male house! I had a boy yorkie who I adored who was the most affectionate dog ever! So when I just got my new baby, Duncan I had to go for another boy. But I was tempted to get a little girl for all those beautiful dresses. Oh MY! I even have boy humans. It would be so fun to dress a girl. I say if you can, do like people are suggesting and get one of each.:D |
