Congrats on your new Yorkie .. Does she have any digestive issues ? Sometimes if they do not have solid stool it will get stuck to the bum and cause a mess . If she does have soft stool I would suggest a vet check to rule out intestinal worms/parasites . |
If it's constantly getting stuck, then I'd assume the poo is too mushy...? If so, I'd be changing foods, asap. What is she eating? |
I agree with what MY OSCAR Said, however, did the new baby perhaps get into something they shouldn't have? I know if my other dog eats something, with strings it gets stuck, and she has a hard time with pooping? |
Chewy type (rice) dog treats were a real problem for my Ziva. We only use cheerios and kibble (different flavor- sample packs) for her treats now. |

I would check for parasites or worms...if you have not already done so, I would cut fur around anus, VERY close.....I could not show any of my babies with the way I have their peri anal areas trimmed, but I dont have stool getting caught up in fur in those areas either! NASTY issue, especially when they jump up and SIT on my furniture!! If there are no worm issues, and she has no diagnosed GI issues and the soft stools persist, I would imagine it is her food causing the soft stool...are you feeding canned food or a dry kibble? Canned food will result in a softer stool than a dry kibble does. |
All 3 of my Yorkies have their butt hair trimmed short. They all have long hair on most of their body and when the poop would hit that long hair there it would get stuck and make a mess. I just trim them about once a month back there and things work great. I do all my Yorkies grooming myself as with 3 of them grooming would get costly for sure. They all get cut differently though depending on the needs of the dog. My male puppy I keep his bangs trimmed so he can see. My daughter pulls up her female puppies bangs so she can see and my older Yorkie has long bangs, but his are not as thick as the puppies so he can still see. Other variations on trimmings with mine as needed, but all get their back ends trimmed regularly. I would say it is a fairly common problem with Yorkies, at least with mine. I know the lady that I got my puppies from had already trimmed all of the puppies backsides before I picked mine up because of this happening. Just keep it trimmed if you can. |
This used to happen to Hannah sometimes because she has long hair. My DH would give her treats that would constipate her. Hannah would get a bath and my DH would get in trouble. He meant well but finally got tired of hearing me fuss. Now he lets me decide what to feed my dogs. Diet could be the problem but I'd check with your vet if it persist. |
