Just Lousy So 4 venomous snakes in the US, my property has 2 of them. We also have 2 venomous spiders here. A few hours ago I just saw three mountain lions on my property too. We have ducks, sheep, donkeys, a cat and two dogs. I love almost every aspect of living in the country, but the above are not the parts I love *sigh*. |
1 Attachment(s) Here is a photo of one of them. I was pretty far off when I got this shot. At first I thought it was a bob cat, but it does not have spots on it. |
Geez! That much wildlife, that close, would be a bit much for me--under any circumstances, but with our little ones it's gotta be a constant concern, yes?! Reckon you've always got to keep a sharp eye out. |
I can completely relate. I have a what I believe to be water moccasin currently in my pool. Almost stepped on a garden snake outside when playing with the boys a couple minutes ago. I have foxes who enjoy roaming around, bobcats, wild hogs, alligator in the neighbors yard before and I have even see quite a few otters lol. Talk about a zoo. |
YIKES!!! That is scary, especially with pups around. |
I would be scared too honestly. We have some deadly critters here in AZ too.., |
Wow I think I would lock my self and Bella in the house . |
I think that is a bobcat. Mountain lions have very long thick tails and I don't see a tail. Maybe just a very big bobcat. All those scary creatures on your property. I think the snakes would worry me the most. Ugg! |

Unfortunately, I got a real good look from about 15 feet away from them. I thought there was only one, and went to get a better look to see what it was (I had a gun just in case). When I got to the top of the dam and looked down, there were three there and I startled them so they ran off. Good news is big cats have been known to eat coyotes and snakes. |
Kiddo and Mario are not allowed out alone anymore. Mario was already not allowed out alone since hubby said he saw an owl almost 3 foot tall a few weeks ago. Lets see, we also have scorpions and coyotes.......country life is grand sometimes :( |
How scary! I don't live in the country, just Mississippi, which is ripe with tons of animals. We had a black bear roaming here (in the city) a few years ago. It, of course, made local news. A deer jumped through the window of Ryan's restaurant on Valentine's Day about 4 years ago. Ryan's is on the main highway in the city. We are overrun at my house with poisonous snakes -- I don't go out into the yard. My husband bought a riding lawn mower (which we don't need, we live in a subdivision) after I ran over two snakes with the push mower. We have to be very careful. |
Well, I still love this place and it is very sentimental for my hubby. His grandparents owned it and hubby spent summers here as a kid. It was sold out of the family for 20 years and we bought it back into the family 7 years ago and have since added on. We had 5 acres and bought 15 more adjacent. The 15 is likely where the cats are living, and that is where the coyotes live. It is still a great place to raise a kid. The whole town knows my kid and they all support and love her to death. Nobody cares when kiddo walks up and starts rubbing their arms, and complete strangers ask for hugs from her. When we started training Mario as a service dog, not a single place has said no to his coming in even though he is not a full service dog yet. They all support us having him and trying this, and tell Kiddo how lucky she is to have him and what a great team they will be. I could not pick a better town if I tried. |
"Good news is big cats have been known to eat coyotes and snakes." I just love that you can find the positive in all the wildness! You and yours continue stay safe and wonderful! |
It does sound like they were mountain lions. No spots and tails. We get Bobcats and an ocassional mountain lion were I live. I certainly don't live in the country but we have encroached on their land to build our subdivisions. The pix looked like a mountain without a tail. |
Eek! We have some wildlife out where I live but the snakes really give me the shudders- I think we are good here in the Pacific Northwest. I am not usually skin crawly but thinking of everything I just read I am feeling that way right now! |
