Christmas tree So this will be my fur baby's first Christmas, she will be just shy of a year old at that time. So my question is how did your baby act when you put up the tree and decorations? I'm alittle nervous about decorating. |
No decorations on bottom branches other wise you will be re-decorating lol, no glass balls plastic only, NO TINSEL, this can fall on the floor and pup may eat it. No presents under the tree until christmas morning unless you want the boxes shredded, and inside contents shewn around the house. Do not leave wrapped presents where pup can get at them unless you want to buy new gift boxes and re-wrap or may have to buy new gift because pup has destroyed them. Keep christmas tree lights wires where pup cannot get to it. Well lets just say a table size tree is best lol. I had a pup knock down the entire tree because of an ornament that caught her eye lol, I had a pup that took off every ornament on the bottom branches, another pup ripped all wrapped presents that were stacked next to the tree trying to get to her present that was at the very top of the pile lol. Any chew treat that is wrapped for your baby keep it where she cannot get to it because she will get it lol. |
Hi Bella didn't bother it at all other then look at and think it was pretty ( I hope ) I don't think you have anything to worry about. I was just thinking about the christmas tree this morning, about how soon it would be to putting it up. I have got a good start a my Christmas shopping as well : ) |
Thanks for the information, those were all the things I thought would happen. Maybe I will try the table top tree not sure if the children would be happy about it. But safety is the most important thing here. |
The mistake I made with my ALL my dogs, last 3 were yorkies, when ever I went out shopping and they were home I always bought them a toy or treat, it would be in a paper bag, when I would get home I would incite them with the bag, tease them with it and made a fuss driving them into a frenzy lol then give them the bag, they would shred the bag to get what was in side it lol. So it was my fault at christmas time with the wrapped presents. Yorkie # 4 I had learned my lesson lol no taunting when bringing home something special lol, my adopted boy Cody was not raised that way with his prev. owner and I will not teach him a bad habit even tho I love to see them get so excited. Your pup may not tear prezzies apart if you have not taught her how to open things, but do be careful of tinsel and ornaments on bottom branches and light wires. I only had this prob. with the yorkies cos they were more spoiled rotten then my poodles and mini schnauzers, my yorkies can do no wrong lol. I was at fault for shredded gifts lol all the christmas naughtiness I found cute and funny and paid the price for cute and funny lol |
Abbi didn't bother the tree or the presents. The only thing I had to do was make sure she didn't drink the water from the tree stand. |
Teddy was in his mischief cord chewing phase so that and curiosity of shredding wrapping paper is all we had to watch! He didn't bother the actual tree at all shockingly! I'm excited for his second Christmas :) |
I bought a 22 inch tall x-pen and put it up around the bottom of the tree....I may have had to connect two of them together and encircle the entire tree and gifts under the tree to keep all safe! It worked wonderfully, I got the gold colored x-pens so they actually were not very noticable from a distance......and most importantly of all, every one and everything was safe! |
I think the x-pen is a great idea I will definitely look into getting one. Anyone know the best place to get one Petco,Amazon ect...? Thanks |
The biggest thing I worry about is the lights and cords. Make sure if your tree is not pre-lit that you wind lights tight and none are loose on lower branches that your baby could play tug of war with or want to chew. Also get creative with the cords, run them up in the tree, wrap branches around them to hold them in place and kinda let them drop down to the light socket instead of laying low and going up to the light socket. |
