Yellow Jacket
 

I thought Yorkies were supposed to be smart!:confused:
Buddybear was in the back yard with my DH when he had to search through the leaves and find a yellow jacket. Oh the little dickens . . . Dh told him to drop it, which he eventually did, but then grabbed it up again and took off. Dh told him he was going to get the "big stick" so he dropped it again and was able to stomp it to death.

The"big stick" is a drapery rod that he is afraid of, I don't know why, we just have to put our hands on it or tap it on the floor and he lets go of whatever he has in his mouth.

Why do they have to attack something like that? Where are their brains?
Do your babies do this scary stuff? Will he grow out of it? He's 15 months.

I am reminded of the time one of my babies ran to the fence in our back yard, and instead of picking up the yellow tennis ball, he stood up on his hind legs and plucked something off the post on the fence and dutifully, brought it to me! Bad thing was, it was a wasp nest at least 3 inches across, absolutely teaming with live wasps, which he dutifully dropped into my hand, so I could throw it for him to fetch! Good thing was, neither one of us got even one sting!!!! There must have been at least 15 wasps on that nest.....and I am allergic to wasps!

Bc of this, PLEASE make sure you have Childrens Liquid Benadryl on hand and that you KNOW the dose - for when he gets stung someday. :)

Last summer was Cody's first summer with me (he's adopted) we are in the yard, he has decided he needs his privacy for potty time so I have to stand 10 feet away from him. I see him sniffing and sniffing the ground, I start to walk over to see what has caught his attention, he sees me coming and snatches up what he was sniffing. I had to rip his mouth open and out fell a yellow jacket as big as a killer bee. Thank god he didn't get stung. Need I say he lost his potty privacy, I am always 3 feet away from him now, the yard and being loose out doors is still new to him, he was a city boy, now is has to get use to being a country boy, this was his 2nd summer in the yard, I am praying he will get use to crawling, hoping, fluttering insects and will leave them alone. Last year we were on the deck, he was on my lap, a spider dropped on my leg, before I could smash it Cody went to eat it lol, but I got to it first. Now before he is allowed in the yard I check for frogs, bees and wasp as bees and wasp dig holes in the earth and bury them selves in these holes, so I make sure there are none in the yard before I let wild child out. I also check to make sure no critter has dug a hole under the fencing where Cody can get out. One must stay vigilant with these little rascals.

Omgoodness, you said when, not if......that is closer to the truth! Yes, I already have it and marked on the label of how much so I don't forget.:thumbup:

I have had two puppies attack and get stung by scorpions. As for the why? These are prey dogs and they go after anything smaller than them (and sometimes bigger) that moves. Our airdale terrier hates birds and turtles...go figure.

Mainly Mario is happy with grasshopper and moths, but he does goes after dirt dobbers and various stinging bugs around here too.

Keep Benadryl around and know the dosage or right it on the bottle so in an emergency you can give it quickly.
