Neutering Nerves for Mummy! Cash is due to be neutered on Monday, something we have looked into and discussed with other dog owners and our vet, yet I still feel so nervous about it! I guess I'm looking for reassurance from other Yorkie owners who have had their Yorkies neutered, we never had any intentions of breeding him, he's our baby! Thank you x |
Buddybear was done by six months. No problems and they gave me 3 doses of pain med. He didn't need anything else and was full of pee and vinegar (lots of energy) in a short time. |
Just had Peanut neutered a couple of weeks ago. He did great. Really no problems at all. I was nervous too but so glad now it's done. |
I had my male yorkie neutered at 10 months he weighted 3.5 lbs and he did great. A few months later I acquired two beautiful females who were 8 And 9 months old. I decided to have them spayed, they both weighed around 2lbs. One went thru the spay beautifully but I lost one under anesthesia. I truly regret spaying my baby Abby even though I know it had to be done. It is a risk but if you feel uneasy go with your instincts. Good luck |
I understand your nerves. I went through them this week. Even though i had my male yorkie Duncan neutered at 4 months, only 8 months ago, Thursday i had my female Yorkie who is 10 months old spayed and i was a nervous wreck. Both did wonderfully although my female has been in much more pain than my male was. When my male got neutered, i brought him home that night, he slept all night and when he woke up in the morning, the worse part was keeping him quiet and not running all over and away from the stairs and jumping. My female who was spayed 3 days ago, on the other hand, is still taking pain meds and isn't back to normal yet although she is getting there. Make sure you buy some onesies so your baby can't get at his incision. They work very well and aren't as awkward as a collar. I'm sure In a couple of days, your baby will be fine and back to normal. We had Mario done at the time of adoption. We believe he was just under a year when we adopted him. He came through beautifully. He was sore and I gave pain meds for the 3 days after. We restricted his movements for the full 7 days. He did have a raspy sounding bark with a mild cough from the intubation, but that was gone after a few weeks. Oh, feel free to call the vet when the surgery is done, and before you pick them up to see how they are doing. I always do this and the vets never seem to mind, and it helps my nerves to know how they are through the day. |
Thank you all so much for your kind advice and sharing your experiences. Hardly slept a wink worrying about it but I do feel better now and will go ahead. I will let you know how Cash is after surgery tomorrow �� He just lifted his leg to pee against my apple tree this morning! #proudmama ❤️��❤️ |
Best wishes for Cash for all to go well tomorrow. I was very nervous about it too when Max was neutered, but everything was fine. As others commented above, I just restricted his activity, held off on the bath for a couple weeks, and made sure he didn't bother his incision. |
He will do great! I had both puppies done last month. Rowan went through neutering very nicely. I gave him pain medicine the day after the surgery although he probably could have been okay without it, but I had it so I gave it to him to help me sleep. He did not need it after that, by the 2nd day it was difficult keeping him from running and jumping. Raksha did fine at being spayed but took longer to feel better and I gave her pain medicine for a few days to help her sleep. I did put onesies on mine to keep them from licking and bothering their stitches. Put them on backwards and their tails can go out the middle snap of the onesie. Mine have full tails so they need that for sure. They slept in the onesies so I did not worry about them licking stitches at night and then part of the day if I knew I was not able to keep a close eye on them or if I had to leave for a few minutes. I cleared my schedule for a week after the surgery so they were never left longer than dropping off and picking my kids up at school and most of the time I took one of them with me and left the other at home so they weren't playing while I was gone. |
I know how you feel.I get worry every time I have to take one in for any type of surgery. I've had pets my whole life, all of which were either spayed or neutered. I'm batting 100, I would say those are pretty good odds your boy will be okay but still you can't help be a little apprehensive. I just had my Duchess spayed in June and her little butt was at the vet's playing when I went to pick her up :eek: I was expecting for her to be all groggy but she was wide awake, alert and wagging her tail. She didn't seem like she was any pain but I gave her some pain meds before bed time just to make sure. By the next day, other than her incision, there was no way of telling that she had surgery the day before. She didn't seem sore or sluggish at all. I actually started wondering if she really had surgery. It was tough keeping this ball of energy calm. I had to put her in expen which of course she hated. |
I'm overwhelmed with all your kind words & I appreciate you guys sharing your own experiences. Cash should be out of surgery now, I've to call at 1pm (UK) to see how he is. His new bed, blankies and babies await! Thanks for the onesie tip, he has a few and likes to wear them. Again thank you all for taking time to put my mind at ease ❤️ |

Thank you all so much ❤️ Cash is doing great and I am so relieved and glad we went through with it, all of your advice was greatly appreciated. Cash was drowsy for a couple of hours and cried a bit but then he wanted his toys out to play. Had to pop him in his crate just to keep him from overdoing it! Not easy, he's so full of beans! He is not keen at all on the collar from vets, he try's every way possible to get it off! Has a check tomorrow just to make sure all is healing as it should ❤️ |

I am very happy to hear Cash is doing well and that everything went smoothly. He'll be able to enjoy his favorite activities again in no time. |
