Urine Color So my do uses a pee pad so I get to see the color of his urine It is very dark yellow. Does that indicate an infection? I don't see any blood just very dark yellow. Does anyone use pee pads and if so is it clear on the pad> |
Probably a bit dehydrated. Try to get more moisture in your pups food and make sure water is always available. |
I agree that dark yellow, bordering on orange, can indicate dehydration. Good advice on keeping a fresh bowl of water available at all times and encouraging the dogs to drink. We praise our boys when they drink. Urine can also be darker yellow when held longer, like overnight. Bright yellow can indicate the passing of excess nutrients out of the body. Clear urine -- Max has this after he drinks too much water from the faucet during bath time. Otherwise, clear urine on a regular basis would indicate a health problem. |
I agree, not enough water intake will cause a darker color or if held to long like over night. Still not a bad idea to take a sample to your vet, better safe the sorry. |

Aiming for clear yellow! |
Our little guy has that from time to time. It is probably dehydration, as he doesn't really drink a lot of water. He doesn't seem to like it. Quote:

I'd run a kidney panel including a specific gravity to see if the dog is over concentrating urine due to a medical problem. No it's not normal. |
