Quick question.. what do i do when puppy does not eat recommended amount of food? lets say.. for one of my pup, they are to eat about 2/3 cup a day.. according to the food bag.. but they may eat not even half of that.. should i be concerned about this? i don't want them to be malnourished or anything.. but they just don't want to eat more than whatever amount they want to eat -_-; thank you in advance. |
What is the age of this puppy? how active is it? Is this puppy playing a lot? Does it go to the bathroom like it should? What brand of food do you feed? |
Hi, I just read in your other post about your new baby, congrats! There is nothing so sweet as puppy breath! You said he was 10 weeks which is a little too young to be away from his Mom just yet, or so I have read and learned. I got Presley when he was 13 weeks and I'm glad he wasn't younger. I had him almost a week and his blood sugar dropped, he went lethargic and definitely not his playful silly self. This happened VERY quickly! Minutes and not hours or days, we ended up at the vet for emergency visit, luckily I had read about this and I was pretty sure this is what was going on. I grabbed the Karo syrup out of pantry on the way out to the vet and gave it to Presley in route. It didn't help, he had to be put on IVs when we got there because his sugar had dropped so low. Even though I was aware this happens and thought this was happening it is very scary! I honestly thought I was going to lose my baby, I was a crying mess at the vet. After a few hours we were able to come home and our doctor gave us Nutri-Cal, this stuff is awesome! It helps keep their sugar up after playing hard or as the vet said 'when a panicking Mom thinks he hasn't eat enough'. This episode scared me really bad and it was a long while before Presley was out of my sight for more than 5 minutes. Where I went - Presley went and so did the nutri-cal. I'm not trying to scare you, just sharing what happened to me and my baby, my suggestion would be to get some from your vet and give it to him a few times a day or how your vet suggest. We didn't have another episode THANK GOD! Presley is now almost a year old wild child! Congrats again on your beautiful baby, it's an exciting time no doubt! |
@buddybear, oh the pup i was mentioning was for both of my pups, one is 6 months old, 2.5lbs, with expected weight of 3-4 lbs.. but i doubt she'd ever reach 4lbs... and other, ekko, 10 weeks old, as @cindy 17 mentioned, eats a bit better than nami, who is 6 months old. nami is not that active, other than when we walk out, about 2 times daily, for 40-50 min.. and maybe little bit of play time.. and she sleeps the most. ekko, he's sleeping alot, as he is a baby, but since he doesnt have all of his shots yet, no walk for him, but he runs around the house at times. nami was on orijen and she didn't eat much of that.. and when ekko came home with us with his food breeder gave, diamond naturals, she started to eat that.. but when i talked to the pet food specialty store, they told me that diamond naturals wasnt the brand they usually recommend, and recommended me fromm, which i got today.. and she wasn't that fond of it.. maybe its because i chose to go with usual grain free route, which had totally different ingridients.. @cindy 17, ty :) i realized what puppy breath was when i got ekko.. i had no idea what ppl meant when i first got kupo. lol. then they started to teeth and i missed it.. lol oh and nutrical, i have that with me. i actually got it from petsmart, for just incase. :) |
I would always give a dab of NutriCal after a play session when Bella was under months old just as a precaution. |
