Kinda gross I have a question about humping so if you get grossed out stop reading now. I don't know what to do with Sammie. He humps alot. I cant always stop it because I might not be in the room and the time I get back it to late. Now the gross part. It is out so much and purple. I thought bi was going to have to bring him to the emergency clinic. Does this happen to anyone. He is fixed |
Is there a bulge at the base of it? The color is normal during sexual behavior. Either way, leave him alone for a few minutes when it happens and it should go down by itself. If it does not, a cool, wet rag held to it will help the blood recede. If it is actually STUCK, use some KY jelly to lube it up and guide it back into place (do NOT do if it is still swollen, cold rag first). If all that doesn't help, then you will need to take him in. But it is very unusual for a stud to be stuck and unable to get down on his own or with very little help. This is not uncommon for neutered animals and is a behavioral issue that needs to be addressed through training. Do not be surprised if even after training he still does it once in a while. |
Copied this from VetStreet: You'd think that once a pet has been neutered, his desire levels would decrease, right? But according to board-certified veterinary behaviorist Dr. Karen Sueda, DVM, of the VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital, although neutering helps to decrease the amount of testosterone circulating in a dog's bloodstream, some of the sex hormone can remain in the animal's system. As a result, certain dogs will still exhibit mounting behavior, albeit less frequently. Mounting or humping can be a hormonal-driven behavior, but it can also happen in a nonsexual situation. In this case, it’s known as a displacement behavior — an act that's exhibited out of context. In some cases, especially if it’s a new behavior, mounting may be a symptom of a medical issue, such as aurinary tract infection. If your dog hasn’t really mounted before, and the behavior is suddenly occurring often, talk to your veterinarian. It could be a sign of an infection or a hormonal disease that mimics an increase in testosterone. It may be necessary to investigate the health of a dog who is suddenly being mounted too. "Remember," says Dr. Sueda, "mounting bothers owners more than dogs. People place human emotion on the act, assuming that it is a sexual or abnormal behavior, but dogs don’t see — or experience — it that way." More embarrassing than anything dangerous...only gets "dangerous" if his penis is dry and it remain unsheathed for more than 5 minutes or so....KY Jelly to the shaft, and making sure the hair at the end of his penis is not tucked into the shaft as his penis withdraws back into his body.....just make sure it retracts, as you can get into REAL major problems if the shaft remains out, dries out and swells. You may have to really work at getting the foreskin back over the shaft.....just be sure he does not remain "dropped", as he can get into serious issues. |
Yes this time there was s buldge at the end. I never saw that before. How do you stop the behaviour |
I am not sure this is a behavior that can be stopped....that would be like trying to punish/stop our sons for masturbating, and YES!!! OMG!!! They do that, perfectly normal behavior....unless they are doing it out in public or in front of people.... Trying to stop this would seem to me, like trying to stop a dog from licking himself....I just dont think you can do that.....here again, a problem I have not had to address.....not even with my intact males, who do "go to work" when they are asked to and presented a female that is ready for breeding, but they have not made it a habit when they are not "working"!! |
I would loudly say "no" and clap my hands every time I saw him do it. You have to let him know it isn't acceptable. |
Squirt him with a water bottle |

The best thing to do is redirect him. Time for a yucky anecdote. My chihuahua is a neutered male and came to me with a nasty habit of sucking himself off. ALL of himself. He used to do it all the time. I taught him that he is not allowed to do it on the bed, the couch, or in front of guests. He will go to his dog bed and do it. That's been the best solution. You can't expect him to never hump. But you can teach him when and where he can. |
Personally, I don't believe in preventing / punishing dogs for humping unless they're humping people or other dogs. If they want to hump their toys, I don't stop them as they're clearly fulfilling some inner need, and I won't stop that. My boys have a "lover dog" that they take on dates ;). And our girl, Pfeiffer, humps her donut bed almost every morning...for whatever reason. As far as the penis getting stuck out...yup, been there LOTS of times :). Fun times indeed ! It happens to Marcel, who has a crazy-large manhood for his small body size...so I do have to help it get back in there at times. It doesn't gross me out or anything bc he's my little baby boy, and needs my help. Are you able to get it back in there, or does it just happen on its own eventually? |
