I have two littermates, Lola and Teddy. Lola belongs to my father, and Teddy is my pride and joy. Their personalities are SO different! Lola is more of an energized, independent, feisty little thing. Teddy is the complete opposite he's such a relaxed affectionate boy. I can truly say that if he didn't come into my life at the time he did, I probably would not be around anymore. He saved me from myself. I love to buy him all the clothes that I can because he actually enjoys wearing them! Lucky me :) I always melt over the little girl clothes and the bows, ugh they're just too cute! |
Just a question do you think that our baby's become what they are because we are what we are? |

I do think that people can make them untrusting ... but most will come around. |

Boy or Girl, that is the question. We have 3 Yorkies at my house. We have 2 boys and a girl. The almost 10 year old male Yorkie is my dog. I got him 10 months ago and he belonged to a man so when I brought him home he ran to my husband who looked down at him standing up and pawing the air at his legs and said in a calm voice "you are cute, but you are her new dog, so go bug her." LOL Teek learned in a few days that he was my new baby and has loved every minute of it since then. This dog loves me very much. Enter the 2 babies. The boy puppy (Rowan) belongs to both my husband and myself and the girl puppy (Raksha) belongs to our teenage daughter. Rowan absolutely adores me. He will come flying across the room and jump into my arms and kiss my face. He sleeps curled up against my back or in my arms. This puppy absolutely adores me. Raksha sleeps with my daughter and she loves my daughter. She is affectionate with her (sometimes with me) but she is much more aloof than the boys are. She loves to wear clothes (the boys do too) and adores a frilly dress (Which Rowan loves to bite). As for the question of boys vs girls. I love my boys! I would get a girl, but I typically choose a boy over a girl if I like him as well or better than the girls. If a girl just really caught my eye I would go with her. I guess I like both but typically I go with a boy if all other things are equal between the pups I am looking at. Since you are getting a boy do get him fixed at an appropriate age. If you get him fixed before he starts hiking his leg he probably will not start to hike it. I have a 5 year old Setter who was fixed at an early age and he rarely hikes his leg up to pee, maybe about 2-3 times a month. My 7 month old puppy was fixed at 6 months and he had hiked his leg 1 time prior to being fixed (2 days before surgery) but has not done it in the month since then. Part of that is walking them to pee in an open area so there is no fence, tree, hydrant to want to hike their leg too in order to not encourage them to hike the leg and this will become a habit to lean forward to pee. As far as marking in the house, they should not do that if neutered at a good time. I got my puppies fixed right at 6 months to be sure I avoided a sibling mating with my puppies. My puppies are also big, as they were 7 1/2 lbs when they were fixed, I might have waited another month if they were tiny puppies. I saw absolutely no change in personalities or behavior after being fixed as some people will claim happens to dogs. So, enjoy your new boy. Every dog is different though, with a different personality. My thing with male dogs though is I will always be alpha female no matter what. With a girl dog I have to prove to her that I am alpha female. It isn't hard with a yorkie, but I have had problems with other dogs in the past. However, if you have a husband he will have to be alpha male over the dog to keep the house running the way it should (in my opinion). I certainly enjoy Teek and Rowan and they love me and adore me and are the best! |

I wanted a girl. We went to the breeder to get the girl and walked out with the boy, mostly because my DH was totally in love with Dinky. I've always kind of wondered if things would have been easier with his more outgoing sister, but after reading this post, I can see that yes, I am a goddess to this little guy. He adores me. Thanks for that perspective! |
My original intention was to have a girl. I ended up with 2 boys. :D Boys and girls are both wonderful. :) |
1 Attachment(s) YorkieMom--You soooo described my little Piper when describing your little girl(s)--which helps me immeasurably because it illustrates that her under-the-couch pouts are more about who she is than what I'm doing 'wrong' (like running a 15 minute errand without her). I, too, think you're wonderfully descriptive and delightfully detailed with all the nuances of your little ones. Thank you for always making a terrific and positive difference in Piper's and my life, truly! |

I just got my first dog ever 6 weeks ago. He will be 17 weeks tomorrow. I wanted a girl so bad so I could put cute dresses and bows on her...but when I saw my Michi I just fell in love at first sight. And he is exactly how everyone describes lil boys. He is so loveable and cuddly. He follows me around every where and will just sit in my lap and chew on his toys all day. He is the sweetest thing ever. I love him sooooooo much and I'm so glad I didn't pass him up for a girl. |
Mayzoo, how wonderful that you are training Mario to be a service dog. My Chanel passed her test to become one also, but died before she was able to be one. Matese, so funny, on the floor begging for forgiveness? She sure had you trained well, hehehe. I would do the exact same thing you did. :-) Belladea, you are going to buy a frilly dress and put on Cody? OMG! Don't you think he will end up with transgender issues? lol Just kidding! That is the exact same thought I had when I agreed to buy my boy, that I would dress him with dresses, and no one would know the difference. HA! I have seen some adorable outfits for boys though, I love the jean outfits, way too cute. It is going to be fun to dress up a boy and girl. Having a boy is going to be a different experience, I went and saw him this afternoon and we had a nice long cuddle, I am in love with him already. Waiting to bring him home is TORTURE!!!!!! |
