Where was the bug? Do you have a spay clinic near you? You can see if they do other services there. Our spay clinic does almost everything at a very reasonable cost. You could look into that if there is one local and maybe it would not be too hard on the pocketbook. |

And it wasn't a flea? The ones on my Yorkies rarely jump, they are usually just moving about. I take a pair of tweezers and squeeze the flea until it pops and then I get it off them. It is the most efficient way I have found to kill them. They usually only jump if they are on me and I look at them and then they jump away before I can grab them. Raksha has fleas from going to my mom's house with my daughter and they have fleas so she comes home with them and then we pick them off her before we let her be with the other dogs. |

A few years ago I saw a small bug on my boy and I freaked out! Turns out it was a flea... I had never seen one before and always assumed that they were much smaller. But I'm sure that what is happening to you lil guy... Good luck and hopefully it's just one and he problem doesn't escalate. They can be very persistent and hard to get rid of once they multiply! |
What are the black spots you mentioned? Are they like black pieces of dirt on the dog in the fur and on their skin. If you get them wet like with a piece of kleenex do they turn a reddish color? This would be flea dander and would indicate you have at least one flea on the dog. The problem with looking up pics of fleas on the internet is that they magnify them and don't show you what a real life flea looks like. They can be brown or black in color and are thin and longer than they are wide. To kill one takes squeezing it until it is cut in half. I remove them with tweezers off the dog and squeeze them until I hear them crunch. If it is easy to kill then it isn't a flea. Flea's do jump, but mostly they crawl around on your pet. They prefer their private areas and their neck and throat and face area. I wish I could help more. I have had some sort of flea issues over the years since I was a small child off and on so I know what flea's look like and the dander they leave on pets very well. When you see a flea online they blow it up so much that a flea on a dog does not look at all like the pictures you find online. |

Ticks will be sticking out of them usually with just the back end out. They are pain in the butt to get out. Let the vet look at it and they should remove it if it is, but you will see what they look like then. Ticks look like they have 6 legs and are creepy looking. I hate them. Good luck when the vet sees him. |

I'm thinking fleas . . It is possible to have just a few. That is unless it goes untreated. You don't even need a special shampoo to do it either Dawn dish soap will kill any and all fleas. Just get him really wet and work up a good lather starting at the head and working your way down and leave it for at least 10 mins . Make sure to lather up every inch of your pup including arm pits and paws and repeat in two days. If you see it again, just grab it and pinch it between your fingers until dead. If your pup and your yard is untreated, he will get more. You really need to keep up on flea control, it can get really bad. Last year was the first time in 13 yrs of having Yorkies that we have had an infestation. It was really bad but this year not a one. We treated the dogs and the yard !! You may want to save yourself an unnecessary trip to the vet and do the Dawn dish soap bathing first. |
