Cocoanut oil Does anyone use cocoanut oil on their Yorkies hair & skin? Also, maybe in their diet? Ive been reading about lots of benifits. I use it on my skin. When im done pat a little on Rugers paws. He sure loves to lick it. |
I am considering adding just a little to Mario's food. It has a lot of health benefits. I do not want to get his fat (oils) consumption too high though, so I have not yet. |
I've use it. Never really seen any difference good or bad. I bought huge Containers also. |
Yes, I rub it into Caleb's fur. He gets awful dry skin...well he did before we used the coconut oil. His skin is lovely now. He also gets rashes when ever we go out, he'll pee on plants and get a rash, the oil soothes him and stops the itching. His skin is so much better. No scabby dry patches anymore. If he's going to have a bath, we put extra oil on a day in advance. As soon as he seems dry or itchy, we rub the coconut oil in our hands (tiny amount) and then rub it on him. Works so well. He also gets a repeat problem, one bad ear, he's on meds again for that, but vet has approved us, rubbing a tiny amount of the oil with our finger, into the top of his inner ear. All the redness disappears, and he sighs with relief. Still needs the meds (drops) for the deeper problem. I'm sure you would anyway, but always check with a vet first, if their is a skin or ear, etc problem. |
Yes - many people use coconut oil in the diet and on their bodies. If you search the forum, you'll find several helpful threads. Glad you're liking it! |
I occasionally brush my dogs teeth with coconut oil. Otherwise I'd rather add omega 3 fats. |
We use it on the doggies and ourselves, mostly skin and hair. I also rub it on the doggies' teeth and gums. Max and Teddy's coats dried out this winter (thanks to our declining water quality), so I oiled them up with the coconut oil and let them walk around greasy for a couple days. Made a big difference when I bathed them. I found that the higher quality coconut oils (cold pressed organic without preservatives) are more effective, especially for healing small cuts on the humans in the house. We use coconut oil rather than neosporin now. |

We also love Cocotherapy brand from the same family of Oscar Newman Luxury Pet Couture. |
I find that my girl likes it. Though I guess health-wise, it's not bad letting her eat some. But mostly I rub it in her hair and it makes it softer and manageable. |
