Info needed I have a female yorkie 6 lbs. That is in heat, I need to know if I should skip her heartgard plus(heart worm) and her advantage I I (fleas) until she has her puppies. I lost my little boy, Mickey and I know I can't ever replace him, but I want (need) to fill the void in my heart . He was my mobility motivator and the house has not been the same. The female is his mother (3 1/2 years old) and I don't want to harm her in any way. Please any advice would help also calling her vet tomorrow. You all have given me lots of good advice before .Thank You |
Am I understanding that this is a son breed to his mother pregnancy? I do not breed dogs, so hopefully an experienced breeder chimes in. We breed sheep, and to try to avoid genetic issues, we try to keep any relations from breeding together. I always assumed dogs was the same concern, but like I said, I do not breed dogs, so I may be way off. Waiting one day and asking the vet is a great idea if no one else chimes in. One day late on heartworm meds is not a big concern. |
Mother dog No no I have my males mother, breeding her to a different male . I would not breed my dog to her own son no no |
Breeding So sorry to hear you lost your little boy Mickey. I can see why you are concerned for the health of the mother even more. That is a good question about the flea and Heartworm meds. As the previous poster said, unless an experienced breeder posts on this I would definitely ask the vet about it. An extra day won't hurt. Hope all goes well and you get beautiful pups soon. |

I would wait the day and talk to the vet. I usually google for answers, but with lives on the line, I would just say wait for the vet answer. |
Mother dog Thank you I do believe asking vet is best thank you for your reply |
If you haven't bred her I would not. You risk loosing her by breeding her even if she has done fine before. You even risk loosing her and the pups by breeding her. It would be so much better to rescue another yorkie or buy one from a reputable breeder. Its so much safer and gives a dog or puppy that already exists a home. |
