Chorkie nervous and clingy I have a yorkie chihuahua cross, she is very clingy and often embarasses me,if I leave her in the car and go in shop, she makes such an awful noise, not a bark but a high pitch loud shriek. Its often the same if I leave her in the house, she is 4 years old and although being a chorkie, she looks identical to a yorkshire terrier. Any suggestions appreciated. |
Hi and welcome to YT :). Does she seem to have severe separation anxiety, is that what you think this is? Some dogs are just more clingy, but for some this does lead to concerning behaviors. I would probably try taking her to an obedience class w/ other dogs to both bond w/ her, and to build her confidence. |
Can you put her in a crate with a toy like a Kong that you can put peanut butter in or something else that will keep her busy? I would never leave my babies in the car unattended, but I used to. I think people here might break into the car to steal the pup. I hope it is safer in France. Welcome to YT! |
She has always been a skittish dog, even from a pup she would go hysterical when we went out and left her alone, she sometimes even pees herself with excitement when a friend visits. She does have anxieties, I think its her nature, but I will persevere with training and try to be less grumpy with her! |
My Teddy Bear was skittish like that. He got a lot more confidence when he went to obedience training, like Ann suggested, and got to learn how to interact with other dogs. I took him to a dog park a couple of times and his confidence really blossomed. He walked up to other dogs and engaged them in play. I'm not really a big fan of dog parks because I'm afraid they will get hurt but it was quiet with only a few small, gentle dogs when I went. |
If you're feeling 'grumpy' leave her be...best for both of you. Try leaving her alone in one room, go into another and before she can fuss, return to her. Then praise her! Always make a big deal each and every time she remains calm, no matter how short the duration. Patience, patience, patience combined with repetition and consistency will take you far...! Good luck and remember to enjoy the journey! |
Thats a good idea, I could leave her favourite dog treats she loves to tear off the wrapper. She is never left in the car for more than 10mins with the windows open a bit, I never heard of dog napping here its pretty safe! |

I would leave baby at home, with a Kong toy filled with trreats....I used to even put some kibble in an empty plastic liter size plastic container....they work for almost an hour trying to get the kibble out of that bottle.....as it rolls around, a few drop out of the bottle, just enough to keep them interested in rolling and tossing that bottle around.....but I would NEVER leave one of my babies locked in a car while I ran into the store, even for a second! They can steal a car in under 45 seconds....along with your baby, who they may just toss out the window as they drive down the road. |
