Getting a 2nd yorkie was the best thing we did. It gave Max a friend to play with when we could not be there (we both work). If Thor is that attached to your daughter you want to make sure to introduce the new one in a way that Thor does not see him as a threat to your daughter. |
Thor stays down stairs on daughters bed most of day or sits in window looking outside if he sits on sofa and i go near him he takes off. Never seen a dog act like him . He has been here about a month now no body can touch him unless daughter is with him |
I would get the other dog. At first the 2 might not seem to get along. They should in time. It is rare for dogs to not adjust to another dog, although it can happen. I had a 9 year old Yorkie and brought in 2 puppies and at first my dog stayed on the back of the couch and I thought I had made a huge mistake. However, he started to play with them after a few weeks, once they stopped jumping all over him every time his feet hit the floor and now they are all the best of friends and he will jump in and wrestle with them. If the dog remains aloof then enjoy your Yorkie while she stays aloof, but this might bring her out of her shell and let your entire family enjoy her. My older Yorkie is all mine but the puppies love everyone in the house. I would get the other dog if you are considering it. Remember that it may takes several week and possibly even months for the two dogs to really get along. Our English Setter got along with my older Yorkie within a week of me bringing home a 9 year old, but it took him 2 months to adjust to the puppies. Good luck! We got prince today very friendly guy. He is 3 yes old and not fixed. He seems to lift his leg to mark territory and is using a belly band to control his urges. Will he stop doing this if we get him fixed |
Congrats on the new addition! It is always great to see a dog welcomed into a loving home. While I definitely think getting him neutered is the right thing to do it will most likely not stop the marking. |
Hi, and congratulations. Even an 'altered' dog...male or female...may 'mark' a territory that is being 'claimed' as their own. I had a female many years old 'mark' my brand new, freshly installed white carpet!! She didn't normally 'mark' anything, but for whatever reason...perhaps the installers had pets and transferred a scent...dunno...but she did it and was quite happy with herself for having done so. :D Your new little Prince 'may' just be staking his 'claim' to the property, since he has just arrived to live with you and found another canine already lives there. I have three Yorkies, all of which are definitely "mommy's babies" but they are also "daddy's buddies" so you may see some attitude changes over time. I wish you the best of luck. Wow, terrific, wonderful, congrats on new family member. Neutering is best to do to avoid testicular cancer down the road, in puppies having this done at an early age most times does eliminate marking only because some male puppies have not started to mark, reason to get them Neutered at a young age. At 3 y/o and has now become a habit, I doubt that it will stop the marking, but, it will eliminate aggression and dominance. Cody is my first boy, I don't have these issues as he is an only fur child. I know and have known of ppl that have 2 males that fought and were aggressive towards each other, after both were neutered the fighting stopped. I advise to neuter for health reasons and eliminate aggression before it starts. Good luck with your little prince, piccies please when you can and please keep us up dated on prince's new life in his new home with his new family and baby new brother. This new boy may help Thor cope with missing his mommy so much, a new buddy to play and wrestle with, so much fun to watch two fur kids playing. |
