in need of some serious advice.. hello , i came here in hopes to maybe finding some guidance in finding a good reputable breeder who has pups on the way or plans too or a litter that was just born.... I am a proud owner of one fur baby who i got from a breeder who is now retired... i am also from new york city where if there is a place selling puppies they are a little less than a million dollars... i paid a good amount for my first fur baby but from a breeder who made me feel 100 percent comfortable and had no signs of red flags but 2500+ for a puppy i myself am not interested in paying... i was once a part of this site but can not remember my sign on information for the life of me.. i have gotten alot of advice from here years back .. hope someone can help sincerly Aly and Bon Bon:animal36 |
If money is a problem, have you looked into Yorkie rescue for a puppy or young Yorkie? |
Don't rule out a cross either. :) Such cuties. That is pretty typical cost for a quality yorkie from a breeder, so if you aren't willing to pay it, a rescue is probably a better bet. |

HI, idk why but i am having trouble writing a response in this thread... hoping this one works but...... My financials are not at all a problem. owning a pet let alone a dog on the little high maitence side for so long i know how important it is to be financially stable when owning a furbaby.. i paid around 1500 for my fur baby bon bon from a pretty amazing breeder so i was just hoping to maybe pay around the same for my next fur baby... either way if anyone one could help with some breeder suggestions that would be greatttttt.... i have been out of the purchasing a puppy game for a bout 6 years since i got my bon bon so i personally do not know at all what they might cost today.... i have also been open to adopting and have looked into a dog rescue program that goes by the name of the sato project but am still looking into purchasing from a breeder |
I don't know that we have anyone here from NYC here but maybe you could contact a NYC Yorkie breed club, ask for contact info for reputable show breeders to contact, contact some of them, explain you are interested in finding out if they sell pet-quality dogs to those of the public who meet their specs and how to access their waiting list, etc. Eventually you should be able to wrangle a meeting or two or three. Size them and their dogs up. Network with them to find leads to other respected, reputable breeders who maybe don't show but still breed excellent dogs and go from there. |
I hope you find the puppy of your dreams. A pet quality puppy from a reputable show breeder is most likely to be around $2000 in the Northeast. You can contact breeders from the YTCA or YTGNY. Ex-NYer here, Da Bronx, $2500.00 + is what you will pay in NY for a healthy quality pup. NY pet shops put a high price tag on puppy mills pups and mixed "designer" dogs. Look outside of NY, but expect to pay close to that $2500. if you're looking for a healthy baby. Make sure the breeder is close enough to you that you can drive to see it and the living conditions it is in. I am not keen on buying a pup from a picture and having it flown in with or with out a Courier. If you don't mind an older baby rescuing is so rewarding and you're saving a life, there are plenty of young yorkies looking for homes, maybe not so many in NY but in adjoining states. I always had 8 week old puppie, now I have a rescue boy, he was 2.5 y/o now he is 4 y/o, he was NOT an abused dog, he was a surrender boy, mom had a new baby and couldn't cater to the dog, so off to the pound he was going.Everyone / anyone will always buy the puppies, it's the babies that have been thrown away that need your love and a happy home, glad you are at least thinking of rescuing. Good luck in your decision to rescue or get a puppy and good look in finding a breeder that has healthy babies. Good luck in your quest to find a healthy baby. |
Maybe you might think about going out of your area to find a new baby. I think 2500 is a bit much too. Bella was 1500 from a very good breeder here in Ont. She is not show but pure yorkie with papers. A thousand dollars can buy alot of gas just a thought. |
I guess its location and demand for these purse pets really...Teddy was like $300 no papers cuz the breeder got older and lazier and stopped paying to get papers for every litter so yea I guess if they have papers I'd expect at least $500-$1000 I think the prices some untrustworthy breeders sell at are ridiculous |
