We're moving to a condo and worried about Lola barking she barks every time we leave even if its just for a few minutes we don't leave her much but sometimes we have to but we don't want the neighbors to complain so I was thinking about a bark collar any one ever used one

I have known people that have used these....they are very effective. I know a lot of people do not approve of bark collars, but when it comes down to a bark collar or having to rehome a pet, bark collars are an answer. There are other alternatives, but most are not a rapid, or as effective or as affordable. Yorkies are very smart and they learn VERY quickly what and how a bark collar works....a shock is delivered, in graduated strengths, when the dog barks....once they learn about the bark collar, which is typically easily within a day, when you get ready to leave the house, you put the collar on her and she will not bark while you are gone.....not even if someone is breaking into your condo or in the event of fire, etc!

If it were me, I would wait until there was a complaint about the barking. Get to know your neighbor, let them know about your little dog, and let them know if she should cause any problems with barking, you certainly want to know about it immediately and you will take action to remedy the problem. If you have a good neighborly relationship with your neighbor, that will go a long way to solving your concern about your baby's barking, and it increases the neighbor's level of tolerance immensely!

Bark collars do work in most cases. They can have an adverse effect on some dogs, that just do not get the connection between the bark and the shock delivered. We are not talking about a shock that knocks the dog to the ground....once the dog makes the connection between the graduated shock delivered and the bark that is causing it, they will not bark! I have seen it used very effectively, in different circumstances, with different breeds, in hunting events as well as to stop barking. I would not use it on a little Yorkie less than 4 lbs....just in issue in my own mind. There are arguments that it is a cruel, I personally do not think it is cruel....it is a rapid conditioning response that is very effective and I would use a bark collar if it came down to a collar or getting rid of my pup because of barking.

I agree w/ what YorkieMom has said above. In the meantime, you may want to buy the Bark Genie at Amazon and use it outside of the door when you leave (ie, wait a bit outside the door for the barking - and use the Genie accordingly).
