Possible Reaction to front line plus Has anyone had a reaction to Frontline Plus. My yorkie is very itchy, scratching, and licking her lips, (very thirsty)? |
Possible reaction to Frontline Plus Has anyone had a reaction to Frontline Plus. My yorkie is very itchy, scratching, and licking her lips, (very thirsty)? My "Bella" is 2 1/2 years old and 3 1/2 lbs. We applied the appropriate dosage for her weight. Her first dose was May 12 , and 2nd was June 12. We were away for July and wasn't able to put on 3rd dosage till two days ago, August 28. We noticed yesterday, 8/29 she was scratching alot, all over, and we noticed she's been licking her lips and seems very thirsty, drinking more than normal. Has this happened to anyone? Any suggestions? We're thinking a possible reaction to the Fronline Plus. Is there somethng we can do for her. We gave her a bath today. We've been using the same shampoo, so we're thinking it's not the shampoo. Is there an antidote to the frontline that may help her, or any suggestions to help my little baby? |

My maltese had what looked like a chemical burn from it. How is she doing now? |
She's very itchy and constantly scratching. And drinking lots of water. I don't know what to do for her. I gave her a bath but it's not helping was wondering if there's an antidote to the frontline. Or if anyone has suggestions to help my Yorkie with the itching. |
I think you should get her to a vet. You also might try some Benadryl. My Teasell was having the same problem and the Doc said to use that until you can get into the Vets......Lynn |
After I applied it to my 4-lb Yorkie she immediately ran to her pillow started rolling around and screeching. I picked her up faster than a speeding bullet tossed her into the sink and ran cool water over her. Interestingly, I put it on my Biewer (3.5-lbs) at the time same time and he had no affect. I have used it on all of my other dogs with no problems. The vet had me try another product. It took a few minutes after application and she was screeching and rolling around again. The vet and I agreed that this was the last time we were going to put anything on her. She now takes Sentinel and we are fine. |
On the back of Frontline package it reads..... "side effects:: may experience temporary irritation at the site of application. If signs persist or become more severe within a few days of application, consult a veterinarian IMMEDIATELY" I use front line on my dog, he'll run around like a wild child, "try" to roll on his back to wipe it off, none of my dogs have had any reaction from Frontline. If I were you I would call your vet describe what the dog is doing, do you see redness or any type of irritation where you applied the Frontline. |
I would definitely contact the vet on this one. I have only seen what look like chemical burns on my animals (I discontinued use after it happened) which was in fact on a cat that I used a flea product on. Not sure on the brand as this was probably 8 years ago. Never heard about it making them thirsty, but maybe a vet has heard of it. I hope she is doing better. |
Frontline plus Both my dogs have weird neurological reactions to frontline plus (confusion, lethargy) and we switched to a product with pyrethrins which they are ok with but it's just not as effective... |

now I use para star on Lola and have not had one side effect. Her is some advice, when you apply any of these products to your pup, hold them for 10 min or so, you want to have it fully dry before they start rolling around, if they roll around on it they will spread it on their body or on the carpet or rug which you don't want to happen |
Frontline Hi everyone. Good news. My Bella is doing much better. Scratching less now and her licking her lips has decreased. Not sure why. Still think it was the frontline. I did what some of you mentioned...I checked her food and that checked out good. Maybe the bath helped...who knows. Im thinking the frontline may be too powerful for her since she's only 3 1/2 lbs. don't think I'll be using that anymore. Thank you all for your advice and concern. I'm new on this site and felt very welcomed as a newbie I love my "Bella" so much and hate to see her uncomfortable. She is the sweetest little thing. Trying to put her picture with my name but don't know how. Any help is appreciated. Thank you ALL again |
