Cost of tooth extraction New to this board and wanted to say Hi! We just got a rescue yorkie/possible maltese mix two weeks ago. Found out that he still has two baby teeth that need to be extracted. I live in So. Jersey (Burlington Co) and wonder if anyone in the area has had to have dog teeth extracted and what kind of $$'s I'm looking at. I took him for his initial visit to Vetco and was not happy there so I didn't pursue this procedure with them. Any suggestions are welcome. |
Hi and welcome to YT :). Your best bet is to call a few different vets in your area and compare. Here, I think it'd cost at least around $350-400. |
Welcome to YT!!!!! Like Whylie's Mom suggested, you should "shop" around. If you have friends with pets, maybe ask them for referrals. Also, the cost can vary depending on location. I go to Banfield and I purchased a plan where it included dental. But teeth extraction was extra. I believe I paid about $100 extra per tooth. |

Is the dog already fixed? My vet is checking my puppies for puppy teeth upon check in to be fixed in a couple weeks and then they will pull them during the spay/neuter. I think they quoted me at $15 per tooth if I have it done while they are already put under. They are also getting microchipped as well, so it is going to be an expensive day for sure with 2 of them. I think Raksha has most of her baby teeth out at this point and Rowan is a little behind her. I am hoping there are not many that need to be removed. I know it would be a lot more if they were not already getting fixed. |

I am in central Jersey and have wonderful vets, but we are a bit too far for you to travel. I have a colleague in Cherry Hill with two corgis. I will email her and find out who she uses. Will post as soon as I hear from her. |
Baby teeth shouldn't cost more than $10 - $15 each. The anesthesia is the expensive part. |
Adult teeth, our vet charges $10 - $50 each based on difficulty. |

I just had it done for Winnie. If they have big teeth and spay late I get it done with spay/neuter ...But Winnies werent developed. She had 2 fangs recently pulled out. Still had roots. $205. Putting them under is the cost. Why its recommended when they are spayed. Only teeth that needed pulling. The rest came out on their own..With my wiggling...I brushed her teeth everyday so I would wiggle them just a little. Not brushing those...But the fangs would be there for good it I didn't have them extracted. Seems not she can bite the bigger dogs harder.. |

We just got the dog about 2 weeks ago and he was already neutered. The vet told me about the two teeth and said they had to come out and she would set up a payment plan. This is the first and last time I will go to this vet. I did not sign any forms for my dog to be used in training a vet. I did not realize this is what was happening at the time because this was a new vet. The visit started out with some little snit asking me if this was my first dog. I told her no, I had had a Skye terrier rescue, purebred collie, and two pure bred Bichons. She then loudly told me she would never get a purebred dog! Then the dog was taken to a back room to draw blood. My other vet always drew blood in the same room with me in it. The dog and vet(?) were gone for quite a while that I was getting concerned and then I heard him squeal. When they brought him back he had both legs bandaged and the snit told me "He just ripped the needle out of his leg while I was drawing blood. He's fine." Why wasn't he properly restrained? I was not happy with this visit at all. |
I would be finding a new vet for sure! I would not be at all happy about that kind of treatment. As far as the teeth goes, it is putting them under that costs a lot. I had a vet tell me that one of my other dogs needed a tooth pulled and told me if it wasn't out by her next appointment in 2 weeks he wanted to remove it. The night before the appointment I checked and the tooth was still there. I showed it to my husband and he was trying to look at it and grabbed it and she turned it head and it was in his fingers when she did. LOL It must have been really ready to come out because he did not pull at all and barely had a grip on it. I did ask when I made the appointment to get my puppies fixed about any baby teeth and they did tell me they would check for teeth that needed to be removed that morning and she said it was $15 extra. I am assuming that is per tooth, but I didn't ask about that. I am pretty sure both puppies have lost all canine's and all the ones in the front on top and bottom. Not sure how many other teeth need to fall out to be honest. |
I would look for a new vet. We had a similar bad experience with our first vet and moved on. Couldn't be happier now. |
