Which harness would be better to keep yorkies hair from breaking?
A silk or buddy belt?

Once I used the buddy belt, I've never used any other type. They have a soft liner too that you can get for them. Why do you leave the harness on all day if you don't mind me asking ?

Yes, I leave the harness on during the day. 1st because he's a holy mess to put it on, and we are outside a lot. He has to be on a leash. When I leave the house I do take it off. Thank you for replying. Do you have a liner for yours? I understand the bb is very expensive. Ruger is almost 8 months and I wouldn't know what size to get.

I don't think there is one answer that fits all dogs. My boys are in full coat and wear the Buddy Belt daily and do not have hair breakage. They do not spend all day in the harness, but they have spent extended periods in them for travel or naps between outings.

A silk harness is likely the easiest on hair, but for my boys, they need the security of the Buddy Belt.

The Buddy Belt is really easy to put on quickly. It might make the difference for you and your pup relative to having to wear a harness all day.

Cost: the Buddy Belt is an investment. My boys' primary BBs are at least 5 years old, worn daily, and still look fantastic.

I prefer the Buddy Belts. Yes they are more pricey but in the long run, they last--FOREVER. The silk ones, if you are referring to the silk dupioni ones, dupioni is not as strong as silk sateen. The slubs in the dupioni are the weak points, the tangles and breakages. They are reinforced with interfacing. Well then in that case any fabric can be used then. The slubs are no better for yorkie hair than any other fabric. There is no harness on the planet that will not tangle or break long yorkie hair if it is worn every day. Any harness maker saying theirs will not break or tangle yorkie hair is a lie.

If you are planning to invest $30-40 on a harness, I would go for BB. Actually they are $40+ but if you buy their adult size (and don't lose it or have it damaged) you will never need another harness, unless of course you WANT one. You will want to collect them once you get your first. I was lucky to get our first used on ebay for $20+ incl the matching leash. We still use it to this day. It's been about 6 years.

Also, BB are strong enough to lift your yorkie up by the leash if trouble prevents itself. Can't say the same of any other harness. Plus the BBs even though are leather can withstand water.

I highly recommend the Buddy Belt. Eleven days ago, I believe it saved Katie from getting severely hurt. A Boxer who we see on our daily walk jumped out of its front window. The front gate was open and the dog came charging at us from across the street. With the Buddy Belt I was able to lift Katie up into my arms quicker. The owner got there just as the dog reached us and I had Katie safe in my arms. I don't believe it was meaning to hurt Katie, but it was exuberant and would have trampled her. Katie is a confident little girl who is not aggressive, but she might have given the Boxer a message he could have construed as aggression, and who knows what would have happened. It's not the first time I've lifted Katie safely off the ground with the Buddy Belt when an unleashed dog comes running toward us. She has seven of them (three are a bit tight), and I'm sure I will be buying more, only from Kristin.

Buddy Belt Harness

We found a full harness too hot in our weather, so we use a silk harness. I do clip the fine hair under Ziva's front legs because it knots up with anything- clothing or harness.

Emma is in full coat and for a while I would take the BB off but I've started to leave it on for ease of going potty. I haven't had breakage, since she doesn't sleep with it on and I brush through after I take it off.

Good info - someone should PM me and tell me how to order for Teddy since I don't think they do buddy belts in the UK!

Thank you for all the information. I am looking on line at BB but not bought yet.
My little boy is almost 8 months so not sure what size would fit for years to come. Right now he weighs 5 1/2 lbs. he was supposed to be bred to stander.
Can you adjust belt through growing?

Oh my, so happy you kept her safe. I have had to do the same thing but just bent over and picked mine up. He wares a no chock harness, but fastens with Velcro and a clip.

If I were you I would go ahead and get one to fit him now on the big side and yes there are 5 adjustment holes to get the right fit. I would contact Kritsten aka Maximo and ask her advice. She is the best person to ask about BBs. My totally unprofessional opinion would be to get a size 3 which will fit him on the smallest hole now and give him room to grow into also. My two are almost 5 lbs and almost 7 lbs. They both wear a size 3 and Toto (the smaller one) wears it on the smallest hole. Uni wears hers on the second to smallest hole but her BB is the old one that has stretched a bit over time. It's at least 6 yrs old (that is the one we bought used).

As Capt Noonie explained, there is some room for growth depending on where your pup fits in a size range. Go by chest measurement and not weight. Measure chest girth snug against the body and do not add any room to the measurement. If you tell me the measurement, I can recommend a size and tell you how much room for growth there would be.

Buddy belts are by a long shot the best harness out there in my opinion. I have two- one for each of my tiny dogs. Both have held up well to abuse and I am sure will last a long time. I will never buy another brand of harness for my tinies. The price is a turn off but they are SO worth it in the long run.

Yeah I thought the price was crazy when I first heard of BBs. But if you buy two bad harnesses for $20 each, and they don't fit, don't work or your pup doesn't like them, that's a BB right there.
