Welcome to YT, and thank you for rescuing a near senior baby, I think it is awesome of you. As far as the crating goes, I myself would not crate, I agree with Wylie's Mom on the Iris Pen. I would have a crate in case she would willing use it, my concern on crate is....She is crated at the shelter, you don't know what her past history is, you want her to be happy in her new home, iris pen gives her more freedom then a crate. She may associate crate with shelter or her past making her adjustment time in her new home take longer, just my opinion. |

Maybe you can put a small carrier with soft bedding, (hard plastic type) inside the iris pen and that way your little one could still have a little cave to cuddle up in.....door off of carrier of course. Just a thought ! |
First, I want to say thanks for the encouraging messages and tips. Secondly, I want to update and share that we absolutely adore our little Yorkie, Zoey. She has been a wonderful addition to our family. We crated her for the first few nights, and we didn't hear a peep out of her. However, after a few weeks of getting to know us and spending all day with us (we both work from home), she started to whine for us at night after we went to bed. We tried moving her crate into our room to see if that would help, but it didn't. We put her little dog bed in the middle of our king-sized bed, and that's where she's slept ever since. We wouldn't have it any other way. I took Zoey back to the shelter to get her groomed last week. While there, I spotted another Yorkie up for adoption, and we hope to bring her home with us tomorrow. We are so excited! |

If your pup does bark at people and cars driving by the front door, maybe you could get some pretty wallpaper and put it on the lower part of the glass door so she can't see out? That wouldn't affect your vision out, but would prevent her from seeing the action going by. Good luck with your new pup, I wish you many happy years together! |
Congratulations on your soon to be new Yorkie and welcome to YorkieTalk. It is nice to hear that you adopted an older dog, I used to volunteer at our local dog shelter, and it was always so hard to get older doggies a home. Thank you. I did found with my older girl she would need to pee sometimes twice a night, I did not crate her, she just slept in her bed, and I would put a couple of pee pads out for her, and she always seemed to hit them, you could put her/him in a pen at night instead of a crate, put a bed & a couple of pee pads. Would love to see some pictures. |

I think smack dab in the middle of your bed, in her bed, is the perfect place for your Zoey! I think Zoey got her Christmas miracle in coming to your loving home (and I pretty sure you all feel like that's what she's given you...a little Christmas miracle). Happy Holidays! |
So glad to hear Zoey is doing so well. The fact you have allowed her in the bed speaks volumes. She obviously loves you and wants to be near you and you feel the same way. Adopting a senior dog from a shelter can leave the new owner with lots of questions about the new pet's past life. It sounds like all that is not an issue with little Zoey. I hope you do as well with the next new addition. Congratulations. |
Wonderful news on Zoey's adjustment, and now another baby, you better be careful on Zoey's next grooming, she may think her reward for being a good girl is a 3rd buddy. Please let us know how the new baby is doing and Zoey's acceptance is going. |
