New member, new owner ..Hi! Hello everyone! I adopted a one year old male we named Rodeo on Saturday. He is a great little guy and I'm already so in love. He hates leaving my side - I can't even go to the bathroom alone. He is a bit aggressive towards our lab but getting a little better each day. It happens most when the lab comes near me. He has a terrible puppy cut that his last owner gave him at home. I hope it grows out fast. He has a grooming appointment two weeks from now to at least even him up as it grows out (hopefully quickly!) He could possibly be mixed with something even though she told me he was a purebred but he has floppy ears, and I'm guessing a cotton coat since its slightly wavy, his colors are a bluish silvery and tan. Either way I'm in love. The hardest part is finding tiny harnesses for him since I love in rural Idaho and shopping options are slim. I'm gonna try making him some from a simplicity pattern. I'm rambling, but I'm just so excited to have him and meet you all! |
Try cat harnesses if need be. That's what I get for them until they get a little bigger. And massage the ears often to get the circulation going and that's always worked for me to get their ears up...but maybe at a year it's already decided on ears down. Ears down is just fine too. My Toby has floppy ears and he's cute as a damn button. I wouldn't even want his ears to go up at this point. As for the aggressiveness, just give it time and they will come around. It's not an immediate thing for them to be comfortable together. |
I dont know how large he is, but I have some little adults that I use ferret halters on them....they are like vests and they work super! I did sew a couple of hook and eyes at the closure just as a double safety check..... Congratulations on your new baby! You will soon understand the immeasurable depth of love you will feel with this baby!! |
Oooh! I never thought of using ferret harnesses... |
Hi, welcome, and CONGRATS!!! ON the ears....bc they are floppy, it doesn't necessarily mean they're a mix -- the ears don't stand on their own, a breeder tapes them for a time. If your pup is still young and you want the to stand up, you can still tape them -- there is a thread on how to do it in the Puppy Library... |
Welcome! Love your little guy's name. |
Welcome .... |
Welcome! Sounds like he likes you if he is following you everywhere. Remember that it will take several months for his full personality to emerge. Be patient and if he doesn't want to play right now, keep trying. A young dog like that might adjust faster than my 9 year old Yorkie did to me earlier this year. He would not play with a toy for at least 5-6 weeks that I had him. Now he loves to play. I order harnesses from Ebay for my Yorkies, I now have 3. Floppy ears are how some Yorkies are. Post pictures when you can. We would love to see him. What does he weigh? We have Yorkies on here from 2 lbs up to 22 lbs! LOL My 9 year old is 7 lbs. My 2 Yorkie puppies are mixed and they are currently 7 and 7 1/2 lbs at 5 months old. I am expecting 8-10 lbs on them full grown. They are as cute as can be so it is all good. |
