Yorkie wont eat out of bowl! I have a 6 month old yorkie she won't eat unless I hand feed her or put it on the floor I read alot of yorkies are like this they like to eat on a flat service I was wondering does anyone know if they sell flat plate dog dishes made for just dogs if so please let me know where so I can buy it thank you |
Some bowls make too much noise and it scares the dog, other bowls like stainless steal can show a reflection and it scares the dog. You could use a paper plate till the dog gets more confidence. If the paper plate works, eventually start adding a little of the food to a bowl. I know the sound of ceramic bowls moving around on a ceramic floor can be a little loud, so even placing a mat under the bowl could help. |
:D Harry hates bowls - even now!!! So he has his own designated 'bone china plate' (the same as ours!) - but I've put a sticker on the back so that I don't get them muddled up ;)...plus I put it on a place-mat on the floor so it doesn't move around :) |
Some years back I had a girl that at the age of 3 y/o decided she wasn't eating from a bowl any more, I used a salad dish for her and that worked, thing is lol, she would eat the half that faced her but would not reach over to eat the rest, I had to turn the plate 1/2 around so she could finish the rest lol, such a silly girl. AND, if I wasn't watching her when she ate the first 1/2 she would back away and bark at me to turn the dish around lol, she was so cute. How I miss my girls. |

I use a bowl originally purchased for my Calypso cat; it's rather wide and shallow (designed for those feline whiskers) and Piper has been fine with it. I also have it raised off of floor about two inches and have a placemat under bowl...These sweethearts have some rather distinct and endearing little idiosyncrasies, don't they?! |
I use saucers. They are the right size with just a small indentation in the middle. You can usually find a whole stack of them at any thrift store. I just use the ones that came with my dish set that I got 20 + yrs ago. We have never used the cups or saucers in all those yrs. Now I have a use for the saucers at least.:) |
Good suggestions! Eddie sometimes gets afraid of his water bowl or food bowl. In retrospect, it's probably the reflection. He'll bark at the bowl. I used to have to go out and hand feed him, but now when he does it he just wants encouragement. I go out and watch him and he's fine. |
