Mating 2 non acquainted Yorkies So my Female yorkie is on her 2nd heat cycle, my male that I want to use as a stud is too small still (only 5 months old) I did get another stud from my friend who is also a breeder. I introduced the 2 yesterday (my female and her male) my Female was so excited to see him and trying to play with him as he on the other hand has no interest in her... he is following me around like crazy (as if I'm on heat!!!):confused::eek: He is not aggressive at all I also introduced him to my other 2 females (one still a pup and the other not on heat yet) and to my male pup as well and he is fine with them. My question here is why doesn't he show any interest in my female yorkie that is on heat...... And please I don't want any rude comments.. |
Welcome to YT, I am not a breeder and have NEVER breed nor will I ever breed a pet of mine. The first mistake you made is.... you have to bring your female to the house of the male. There are many first mistakes you have made, I will leave that up to the breeders we have here on YT to explain what they are. Hopefully they will advise the do's and the don't s and the reason behind it all. |
Thank for the reply, reason why I have the male at my house is that my female gets car sick and if I mean car sick she gets sick like hell.... and its an hour and a half drive to the breeder and that's why I brought him to my place, and I did breed with pekingeses before and I also brought the male to my female that was on heat and he mated with her in a few seconds after the introduction... so I have my reason for not taking my female to the breeder. but thank anyway for the reply. |

Spot on answer....absolutely correct.....and coming from someone that clearly and quickly admits she has no interest or knowledge in breeding.....yet she got this absolutely basic information correct! The next statement in her answer, that I highlighted, about "advising the do's and don'ts and the reason behind it"......while that is very valuable information any dedicated breeder or novice/beginner would or SHOULD appreciate and value, the OP clearly stated, "My question here is why doesn't he show any interest in my female yorkie that is on (sic) heat".......And please I don't want any rude comments." Matese, YOU answered her question in the first couple of sentences of your response....that is ALL she is receptive to, so YOU my dear did a fine job answering her question....no need for any experienced breeder to elaborate! |

Well thanks guys and sorry for asking.... |
I will deal with this on my own I don't need rude comments or rude people answering me.... |
Wel yorkiemom1 I have no idea why he isn't showing any interest in her at all... The little puppy of mine that's a male shows interest in her but hes too young. That's why I asked for advice, the breeder that I've borrowed the male from just said I should give him time... But from my experience is if a female is on heat the male never leaves the female alone.. But sorry for asking questions, in my mind that's how people learn from asking questions but it clearly doesn't work like that here. |

The female should always go to the male. Males are very territorial and when they go to new places, they are busy establishing that it is THEIR property.....that will usually override the desire to breed, at least until the male establishes the property as his. You already explained that you will not make a change in this problem because your female gets carsick. Get over that....go a day early, let your female get over being carsick, take her to the male for 3 consecutive days, (or 6 days depending on how YOU prefer to breed), and then head back home. So, there is nothing left to discuss with this issue....you have put your limitations on what works best for the dogs for you, so if they dont like the set up you have established for them, they just wont breed, even if that may be what is best for you. When breeding effectively, we many times have to go out of our own comfort zones, in order to do what is best and most beneficial for the dogs. When someone comes to this site and asks questions, but then outlines and gives parameters within which they will accept answers, this immediately gives people you are asking answers from, that they need not add details or additional information to answers they are generous enough to share with you. THAT is how you MAY learn something.... Often times, when a person wants their question answered, but only within strict guidelines or parameters they impose on the people they are asking help from, the person asking the questions does much better doing research on their own, by reading books that cover the issue they want answered. That way, rather than insulting people that are trying to help, by limiting responses you only WANT to receive, you can just read the information and skip over what you have no interest in. That way, busy people that stop to share valuable information they have learned over many years, with a person that really has no interest in receiving that information, do not waste their time trying to help where help is not wanted or appreciated. To insult people that are willing to stop and help you, then for you to turn around and insult them again because you do not appreciate the limitations YOU put on them and their answers, is almost comical, if it wasnt so rude and inappropriate. |
Is he a proven stud? |
Yorkiemom1 I'm not putting limitations on my breeding... Problem is she is carsick and how do I get over it? It's an hour and a half drive to the breeder and if she's carsick she vomits like hell and she gets an upset stomach as well so it's literally everything comes out in the back and front... So I'm not sure if upsetting her with the drive back will be good for her if there was a chance that she's going tto have puppies... That's why the breeder as well thought it would be better to bring the male to me... So sorry if I offended you in any way but it felt like you guys were judging before you even heard ne out and why I did what I did.... The male will be with us until Sunday, but I honestly think he won't make a move... I'm still learning here so I've learned out of my mistake by bringing the male to me... I was under the impression if a female is in heat the male will mate no matter what... That's how ot worked with our pekginese dogs before I brought the male to me and he showed interest immediately... And another thing the breeder who is helping me is breeding for more than 14 years and why didn't she warn me about this then she insisted that I take the male to my place because my female gets carsick, I've spoke to her this morning informing me he still isn't showing any interest in my female and she said give it time his clever he doesn't waist his sperm...... So I guess I should just wait until my male is ready for breeding. Again sorry Yorkiemom1 if I have offended you in any way your answers wasn't really answers it was judgemental towards me..... |
According to the breeder he is chickenamith... |
Your female if indeed this is a proven stud will not mate with a female who is not ready. Did you do the hormone testing on your female to see if her levels were right for mating? And my experience with my studs is while they will show interest in a female and even signal about 1 month in advance this bitch is going into heat their interest increases crescendos over time until she is in Standing Heat. And yes they won't leave her along then - and life is hell for those few days. I don't understand why Yorkie breeders don't do more AI - that is safest way to mate. And in our small community I expect to host the owner of the female during the duration of when we shall mate these two dogs. And the dogs are never left alone to mate - although now as I have said we go to AI much more frequently. |
Hummmm....well I don't even pretend to know how things are in SA! But I'm sure they're a bit different than from here in the states. From what I gather veterinary care is a little less? I did work in a vets office as a tech and we had a bull dog breeder and a German Shepard breeder who we did testing for to check levels. I just wonder if she is not quite in full standing heat yet? Maybe the male could stay a little while longer? |
Jip things are a bit different in SA than in the states ;-) I've arranged with the breeder that he could stay another week with us and she said it's fine so he will be going back only next week Sunday. So let's hope for the best now. Thanks for your help and ifo ChickenSmith. I'll contact my vet today and ask if she can do a test for me on my female. |
