how long to tip puppy ears? Hello guys. I was jw.. how long do I need to tip kupo's ears? I personally do not like the tipped look.. but I only did it do one of his ear can stand... I started taping and tipping last month and it is standing on their own. Most of his puppy teeth are out too so he's mostly done with teething... Oh and he's 6 months old now... So when can I stop tipping the ears? I don't wanna stop too early and make it droop again.. :/ Ty in advance :) |
What do you mean by tip? Trimming the ear hair? I personally would trim the ear hair, but wouldn't tape, unless I was showing. I doubt if he's done teething, do you mean he has all his adult teeth?. Many Yorkies ears droop around 6 months because the calcium need for the teeth comes from the cartilage in the ear. Standard grooming calls for the top half of the ear to be shaved front and back. https://snapguide.com/guides/cut-gro...-terrier-ears/ What darling face! |
As Nancy wrote, tipping (shaving) the top of the ears is standard Yorkie grooming. If you prefer longer hair, there is no one answer that fits all Yorkies. Some will have ears that stand up even with the weight of very long hair. Others will have ears that fall under the weight of the hair. |
@nancy1999, oh yes, i meant by trimming when i said tipping :) and when i taped him before, i taped him only in the inner ear, to give his ear some support, since one of his ear was bending at the very base of the ear. i didnt tape across both ears as some other ppl do.. last time i got kupo checked at the vet, he only had 6 baby teeth left.. which was about 2 weeks ago.. and since then he lost 3... lol he has 2 baby molar on top left, and one front teeth.. so he's about done teething... he seems to be avoiding eating carrots now so i think at least one of them is about to fall out soon.. :) and... as for grooming, i personally don't really like the standard yorkie look... i like the puppy cut look :) so when i had his ears tipped before.. i only had it done to help his ears :( @maximo, kupo's ears were standing on their own till he was about 4 months old, then he started to teeth really bad and one of his ears started to droop... he was told that he had a larger ears compared to other yorkie, and it may have been another cause of why his ears started to droop, especially since i never had his ears trimmed... its standing on its own now though :) but how long should i keep it like this? its been about a month since its standing and he turned 6 months old about a week ago... i don't want to stop trimming the ear too soon just in case it droops again... :/ |

@nancy1999 oh.. kupo's adult teeth are growing in atm as well. guess i forgot to mention this part lol. he actually had double canines until recently. the vet didn't really wanna do the tooth extractions, since she thought they were all going to fall out soon, which most of them did. :) but i liked his one flop, one up ear before too... but he kept getting ear problems, and i was told that its because of his floppy ear that was collecting moisture and all.. :/ which is the reason why i started to look into how to make his ears go up again :( here are pic of his floppy ear and during taping process.. i'd take pic of how his ears are right now, but groomer messed it up and i'm waiting for his hair to grow to take new pics.. lol pic of his floppy ear <3 pic during taping |
