My neighbor just call and said as he pulled out of his driveway a coyote ran across our driveway and front lawn.

Come on we live in coastal NJ. He asked us to check our motion sensor camera and sure enough. There it went. I hate going to my daughters in SC because of the alligators, snakes and hawks. Now I have a coyote here.

Our back yard is fenced but I will be out there with them. Don't you dare come near my babies!

Very scary. I've seen a few at night kind of near us too. I'm sure you are taking every precaution there is.

There was a thread here recently that indicated they felt safe from all this carnivorous wildlife running around in the "woods".....Problem is, these threats are invading our neighborhoods....I live in a neighborhood with 500+ homes, on a golf course!! If you are allowing your small dog to go out to the yard unsupervised, even with a fence around your yard, you are going to pay the price......like Mr Goodwrench says, "You can pay now, or you can pay later, but you WILL pay!" I had even looked at these "rollar bars" that someone invented.....you put them on top of any fence, they are essentially a roller bar....and when the cougar/fox/racoon/coyote etc., jumps to the top of the fence, his feet/legs "grab hold" of that roller bar, which spins and keeps the predator from getting a footing/hold of the fence and pulling itself over into your back yard!! Even keeps owls or hawks from landing on top of the fence, waiting for breakfast! WHAT a concept!!! They were a little more than I could afford at the time, but in the future, it will be something I will be re-assessing!

Aw scary! My grandmas friend lost a little dog in southern Ohio to one :( evil things!

2010 had my new car 2 months, 4AM on the road to catch commuter bus to NY job, coyote comes trotting from the other side of the road, car was tail gating I could only slow down a bite, wham, hit the poor thing. It limped off into the bushes. Here I have always feared hitting a deer, I had heard we had them but never saw one until I hit one. At night Cody uses the deck, I live in a heavily wooded area, I take NO chances.

Cody knows better than to take a flying leap OFF that deck to give chase to an intruder of any kind, doesnt he? Or did you say your deck is enclosed so he cant get out to the yard without you allowing it?

My deck is gated, he can not get off it and it's 3.5 feet off the ground. hahahaha, if it crawls, wiggles, hops, moves, fly's, Cody is on it, reason when he goes on the deck I am with him, especially since the time there was a "cute little possum" trying to squeeze" between the 3.5inch space between the house and deck posting. Here on YT someone posted a video of a coyote that snatched a small animal, with the small animal in it's mouth the coyote hopped a 6 foot fence, I was horrified seeing this, that video is still very vivid in my mind, this is what I see when I let Cody on the deck at night, because my deck is a bit high and my eyes are focused on the woods, I am sure I can snatch Cody & get in the house before the coyote can reach us. Day time Cody is NEVER in the yard without me there.

We live in a very big city - but still we have coyotes in our parks n ravines. I have not seen one in our residential streets - but I am very sure it is only a matter of time. Plus we have lots of raccoons - which I very much dislike.


Razzle goes out in our backyard with me and Magic - Magic can get to an intruder much faster than I can - and Dara is almost but not quite yet trustworthy around Razzle. Maybe another 6-7 months or so she will be. With two Blackies guarding the yard I have little to fear - except for my own Yorkies fearlessness. So at night he is on lead and with me n Magic when he needs to potty outside.

We live alongside railroad tracks and a field of bushes and at night we can hear the coyotes howling behind us. It is terrifying! Our cats run and hide under the bed and Sophie (the great dane that she thinks she is) growls and howls back at them - from the protection of her bed and under a blanket, of course!

One night my husband and I were out for a drive and came across two adults and two pups. The adults took off across the road into a field and the two pups kept playing until they realized they were alone, and then started running along the fence trying to find the adults. We had pulled off on the shoulder to let them four of them figure out what they were doing so we didn't accidentally hit one.

When we were living with my dad (in the middle of a large developed subdivision) we my husband and I were bringing something in from the car and a coyote ran passed us on the sidewalk - maybe 6 feet away from us. I was terrified because we used to let Sophie run from the car inside off of a leash, I was thankful we didn't have her with us that night, and since then she has never been off of her leash!

We live in an apartment now so our yard isn't fenced off and our idiot downstairs neighbour leaves vegetables and other food for the rabbits to eat. Our yard is always full of rabbits and/or food for wildlife which means we have sometimes seen coyotes in our yard eating the food or going after the rabbits.

Sophie does not go outside at all at night because of this (we have seen the reflection of eyes in the bushes the line the yard) and uses pee pads. We have hawks that live right in the field across from us that circle her all the time and coyotes in the back. Ms. Sophie uses pee pads exclusively and is taken for walks on a short leash in daylight so I can pick her up when the hawk comes around - not taking any chances!

we have had coyotes live near us for years, they are actually pretty shy. Yes, small dogs left unattended are at risk as a food source. If you are up at 3AM you can hear them talk to each other..they sound like children at a party. Anyway, many moons ago I spoke to the state conservation rep who told me their numbers had been increasing for some 20 years. BTW: don't leave food of any kind out (like to feed stray cats, deer, etc) it attracts them to your property. :animal-pa:animal36:aimeeyork

We saw our first one here this year, and we can hear them at night.

Joan, we had them in southern NJ when i was there. There were also foxes. If you look at this, it is quite the eye opener regarding the expansion of coyotes in the state over the years...
