Always something after every procedure Myles had a dental on Wednesday. Everything was routine even with two teeth being pulled, or so we thought. Last night she took a bite of her food and let out a yelp and has not been the same since. This morning, her whole left eye is budging and swollen. So off we go. She is so fragile, I just cringe whenever we have to have something done. Feeling frustrated for my girl. |
Poor Mylee and you! Cathy went through this with Teddy. She would be a great resource for info. Praying for Mylee for the problem to be resolved quickly and fully. |
Here is one of Cathy's threads about Teddy's experience: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...e-problem.html |
I'm really sorry that you and Mylee are going through this. Sending many healing thoughts and prayers to both of you. |
Poorl lil Mylee, praying it is not serious. |
Praying all goes well with Mylee and it is not serious. |
I did go through this. In Teddy's case they thought he had a retrobulbar abscess and prescribed him antibiotics. It didn't work and they had him in for a CT scan and they had to chip away at bone in his mouth to open the area. When they opened it, it gushed out salivary fluid. This was unusual. In most cases a retained part of the tooth root is left behind. This will need some imaging or could lead to problems of the area isn't drained in the right spot. |
If it is a part of tooth left behind, isn't that their fault? |
Thinking of Mylee and you and praying for good news from the vet visit. |
Oh no!! Just now seeing this. I hope Mylee is ok. |
It sounds like we are basically dealing with something very similar to what Cathy's Teddy went through. I wish I would have had these responses before we went, but I am so glad I didn't try to wait this out till Monday, and my vet was glad I brought her back in this morning. She has a fever and is in quite a bit of pain. He wasn't the vet that did her dental, but her notes indicate it was a routine extraction with no complications. He feels it's a bleed causing the problems not an abscess but started her on antibiotics and extended her anti inflammatory meds. In the link Maximo provided with pictures of Teddy, Mylee's eye is not nearly that red, it is just swollen. |

If she doesn't improve quickly, I think she will need a specialty hospital with the ability to do a CT scan and see what's going on. A retained tooth root wouldn't be that unusual and it does not mean something was done wrong. |
Oh my gosh so sorry for poor Mylee. Hopefully the antibiotics take care of this and it's nothing more serious. It is sad when we try to be good pet parents and these things happen I will defiantly be having you both in my prayers. |

Gosh.. how scary for both of you.... I'm glad it was caught sooner than later. Hoping for fast recovery! (I hate seeing my pups in pain/discomfort and can't do much about it...) |
Oh on - poor kiddo :(! And poor you, having to watch her go through this! I so hope it's nothing major and will heal quickly. It could be some sort of burst blood vessel in there, causing swelling and pain. Our fingers and paws are crossed for you. :) |
Thinking about you and Mylee this morning, and praying for some relief! |
I hope she feels better this morning. That must be hard to see and to know she is hurting. |
Update 2 Attachment(s) Mylee seems to be doing better today with the extended anti inflammatory medications. On my lunch break she was up to some of her normal antics. Funny how some of the little annoying things they do are not so annoying when they are not feeling well. Its definitely a factor in determining when they don't feel well. I cannot say enough that when you really do know your dogs, they definitely do talk to you in terms of knowing they are not well. Anyways, I thought I'd share a couple pictures of what I was noticing after her dental with her eye. When I say her eye was swollen and protruding, I don't mean swelling shut, I mean swelling OPEN. I'm still putting eye drops in to keep it moist, but she's definitely acts like she's not in so much pain. It's a little difficult to really see, but her good eye is almond shaped, the other eye is round and you can see how tight it is in the corner of the eye. |
Awww, Mylee. Glad to hear she is improving. Praying the meds will be all that is needed. You are a great doggy mom for being observant and quick to act. I agree with your post 10000% about the "annoying" stuff they do (so funny and so true), and how to read our babies in general. |
So glad that she is improving - her left eye is obviously the eye that is the problem you can see the bulge in the outer corner of her eye. |
