My puppy keeps nipping our feet
 
I have a 5 month old yorkie/poodle mix. I've been trying to get her to stop her nipping at our heels. I have a 4 yo granddaughter who gets most of the unwanted attention. She just walks by her and she nips her. Or she'll play on the floor and my Zoey walks over to her and nips her! It's all the time. I've asked before what to do and I've tried putting her in her crate when she does this to show her if she does that she goes in her crate. I tell her "no biting" and so does everyone else. She just won't stop. HELP US!!!!
My granddaughter won't have anything to do with her anymore and I got Zoey for her.

She is most likely teething and will want to bite anything. Feet are within easy reach. Just keep saying no bite and offer a chew for her to bite on. My Uni bites my feet going downstairs when she knows it's time for a walk. I hate this bc I am clumsy and am always afraid one day I will miss my step or she will trip me and I will fall or worse step on her and break or dislocate a leg. :( She has always done this and the only way I can get her to not do it is pick her up.

I'm just not happy she's lost my granddaughter as a playmate. I'm thinking she's doing it for attention from her but it's backfired.

To be totally honest, I think a 4 year old is too young to handle or be around a yorkie unless totally supervised by an adult. A 4 year old is old enough to talk to, but I just think it's in one ear out the other at that age.

First, don't use the crate as a place of punishment -- the crate is supposed to be a safe, cozy, nice place for them - not a form of punishment. Nor would a dog even make the connection of "oh, I'm being placed in my crate for doing a bad thing" -- they can't do that kind of thinking. You should place some nails or pennies in a can and the moment she nips, shake that can hard - so that it startles her and say "NO". You could also buy the Bark Genie and use that instead - but don't overuse it on her.
