Yorkie coat color change 1 Attachment(s) Hi everyone,:wavey: I have a wonderful 1 year old yorkie named Jax, he is my first yorkie and I'm loving every second of it! I alway knew getting a yorkie that the coat would change colors but I didn't realize how amazing it is to actually witness the change. When jax was a few weeks old his coat was black with tan points showing inside the ears, above the eyes, on the muzzle, around the legs, feet and toes, and a tiny white mark on his chest. Now he is sliver and light tan, his face is almost fully silver. The grey started breaking through when he was about 6 months old, his father is tan and steel. I know all yorkie are different and you never know what color they would actually be and I know that it can take up to 3 years for them to fully turn. I was hoping someone can give me some feed back or an Idea of what I can expect. I'm just curious will the silver on his face ever turn tan or will it stay silver? Thanks ! :) The first picture in the attachment is jax's dad 2nd one under it, is jax when is was 5 weeks old 3rd pic Was after his first hair cut 4th and 5h are recent pictures |
I don't know much about yorkie color but he is really cute!! |
It's really impossible to say at this point, as far as I know. But he sure is cute! |
My girls are 4 and 6 and are still changing! Ziva at 6 is getting a little lighter mustache and white hairs throughout her black back! Abby turned totally silver backed and has 1/2 " of black roots(I think the pool and sun faded her hair). Your pup is so cute! |
My Spice looks identical to your jax !! Except her ears stand up and she has a puppy cut. She will be a year the 21st. Jax sure is a cutie and I know he has your heart. They have a way of just kinda wrapping themselves around your heart.LOL |
Awe...Jax is adorable. |
Guessing adult coloring is hard, because they can keep changing color, some up to 3 years. He's just adorable, thank goodness hair color changes and not their sweet, silly personalities. |

Thanks everyone !!!! :) |
I don't care if he was brown, black or purple his coat color will never change how much I love him. He is very smart, obedient, friendly and most importantly he's heathy and happy. To me he's perfect and I wouldn't change him for the world . I wrote this thread about coat change not because I'm worried about what he would look like but simply because he is my first yorkie this breed is so unpredictable that It is Interesting to watch them constantly change. I am enjoying the change but like most first time yorkie owners, I am curious and interested to hear the feedback and ideas from other owners of what they may think the adult coat Might look like and also to hear about their experience with their dogs and the changes they went through. |
