Bath time yikes!! :aimeeyork Lola is 15 weeks old...... her first hair appointment is going to be September 4 .....that's as quick as I can get her in ....but I'm a little worried because every time I give her a bath, which is once a week, she spazzes out and hates it so much I can barely hold her down to give her a bath. I'm worried about the groomer and how that's going to work...does anybody else have this problem? What can I do to make bathtime less frantic?? |
I had a pup once that HATED water so it was very hard to give her a bath. My vet said to expose her to water more frequently and slowly she came around. Speak to your groomer about your concerns, Im sure your pup isn't the only difficult bather they have dealt with and they will know some tricks to make it easier. When I was taking Paris to the groomers at first it was once a month and the first time she was terrified when I picked her up but I started taking her every 3 weeks even if it was just for a nail clipping ans she got more and mort comfortable. Good luck!! |
My groomer is just across the street from me so I take my puppy in whenever I have her out for a walk and she's open. The first time I couldn't get her to walk in. Then when we would get close by she'd lay down! Now she walks right in and she's a perfect client! Lol |
Where are you bathing her? Do you put anything on the surface (like a towel) so there's some traction? |

Bkuck, Max was like your pup at first with baths. Usually gets easier as they mature. Be confident and talk to her about what you are doing. My boys love hearing, "here comes the conditioner" because they know that means it is almost over. Praise for good behavior. For the groomer, your baby may surprise you and behave perfectly. Sometimes dogs are more compliant around people other than their humans. For instance, Max will not let me trim his nails, but he will let the vet techs draw his blood with no problem. Some of it is confidence that that the pros approach the dogs with, whereas us pet parents tend to worry, hesitate, get flustered. |
