Thank you for your up-date. Do not change the puppies food now, keep the puppy on the same food the owner had her on, sudden changes in food will up-set her stomach, Keep in mind, this is a infant baby 49 days old, she is being taken from the human momma, her momma and litter mates, going to you a stranger, to a new home with new smells and no siblings, no momma, she will be under a lot of stress until she gets use to you and her new world, to change her food now is not advisable. You can do that later when she has settled in. Please take this baby to the vet ASAP 24 to 48hours after you got her, she will need vaccines, the vet will let you know when they are to be gotten, and she needs a full check up. This is for the HEALTH of this new little life. I commend you for getting a baby sitter and adjusting your work schedule, I can see your dedication to this puppy. All we at YT want is for this baby to be healthy and not see another fatality in such a young dog and another grieving new owner . I wish you and your pup the best of luck. Please come back every couple of weeks to let us know how your baby is doing. The people on this board are very protective of ALL the furbabies out there. We have seen the loss of too many pups and it just breaks our hearts. But more than anything else we love to hear the stories (and pics!) of the ones who made it. You will stay in our prayers. |
I took him to the vet yesterday, he had his first fecal exam and the results were all negative - the vet said that he is in good condition and he will be getting his vaccines starting next week! I have him on ScienceDiet (Any other recommendations would be helpful) and he enjoys eating it - I was surprised because everything I read said that Yorkipoo puppies can be really picky eaters once they are weaned off their mothers milk. So it's a good start! I will be sure to ask more questions as they arise :) Thank you all! |
Great that you took the pup to the vet, better yet, good vet report yah. Puppies need a high calorie food, they burn a lot of energy if you changed it from what he was eating to ScienceDiet in all honesty I don't know if this is good for a puppy, the word "diet" has me concerned. Puppy's are high energy, they burn a lot of calories playing and running, calories have to be replaced with a high calorie puppy food. Hopefully more knowledgeable members can advise, suggest there experience. All my now passed puppies were kept on puppy food until they were one year old, then I changed to adult food. As far as picky eaters lol, most yorkies are. Before I had yorkies I had poodles and yes they were picky also. My adopted rescue 4 y/o yorkie will eat anything, I am so blesses lol, If your little boy likes the food, be grateful he does lol. |

Science Diet should be fine. It's not a "diet" plan that's just the name of the food. It is a Hill's brand. If he's eating it with no problems, I wouldn't change it. |
