Doggie Ramp Suggestions? Hi YT! I just got a new bed last night and it's pretty high for my yorkie to jump off of. Of course, he does it anyway, but being that he's 8 years old now, I don't want to have him risking it. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good ramp for yorkies to use to get onto a bed? Open to any creative ideas as well! :D:D |
I made a ramp few months ago if you're interested in DIY type of thing. Here's the thread regarding ramps/steps. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...d-jumpers.html |
I have the Snoozer Scalloped Pet Ramp available on Amazon.com. As my dogs have aged, I now have the ramp sitting in a large cardboard box, that I have cut one side out, so the box provides sides to the ramp....keeps my little dogs from accidentally falling/shoved off the side of the stairs as they all rush up to get with me on the bed or couch.... |
My bed is rather high also and Piper uses a little covered hamper to boing from floor to bed. But in spite of my best efforts, nothing will do but goshdarnit, she's too busy, in too much of hurry to waste time with that danged hamper when getting off the bed---she leaps/sails from bed to floor and quite literally, 'hits' the ground running.' In some respects, Piper is a purist when displaying certain yorkie traits and characteristics!!! Yeehaa!!! |
There is a guy on ebay who makes custom steps and covers them in the carpet color of your choice...he can do 1 stair, 2, 3, 4...whatever...so that's what we did. Wylie will *only* use 1 step - so we got that for him and a 3-stepper for the others. |
good luck if you can get your pup to use the ramp or steps to get off the bed, while many will use the steps to go up most still jump down. I finally decided to take my steps away I figured she had no business being up on anything she could not safely get down from. So since she only needs to go on our bed when we go to sleep I lift her up and then lift her down in the morning. Maybe it's me but I don't understand why a dog needs to be up on a bed unless it's time to go to sleep. |
I will second the notion that these guys think using steps to go down when gravity is a perfectly acceptable method is for other non-terrier dogs. I am horrified every time I see Bella doing her Flying Squirrel imitation off of the couch. |
