Meant to also say...until you actually know what's wrong, don't withhold water or anything to deal w/ the excessive pea. If diabetes, it's more likely mellitus...but w/ insipidus (which would be rare), you cannot withhold the water or it can be life threatening...just an fyi. :) |
Thanks for the replies, this forum is amazing! No tests were ever run on his urine to check for UTI or anything. Next time I will know to have them do a urine analysis :/ I first had thought of diabetes but thought it would be pretty rare in a pup his age, I couldn't find much info about it on the internet. Also his coat has become dull, dry, and mostly sticks up instead of laying down. Is this a symptom of either diabetes or kidney issues? I won't withhold water from him as it seems he really does need it. He uses his puppy pad almost 100% of the time I have one in 2 locations of the house so he can get there quickly. He soaks about 3 pads per day. |
So far I've only got 1 result back, high calcium at 15. The vet is suppose to call back at some point with the other labs |
That calcium is very high. I'm surprised your vet didn't want her back in for fluids. Did he give you any indication why he thinks the calcium is so high? Diana |
So the 1st time it was one of his assistants I talked with who told me about his calcium. I just got another call from a different assistant who told me everything is fine, keep him on his antibiotic. |
Grrrr...I hate it when you get wrong info like that! Glad all is well.. Diana |
I had my husband call, the vet did confirm his calcium is 15 but all other labs were good! |
