Which Puppy is a Parti-Gene Carrier?
 
my traditional female was bred with a parti gene carrier and she had 4 puppies. all have traditional colors with some white at the chest. one of them in particular has a very deep distinctive patch of white on her chest/ while it is present on the others but not as distinctive. I assume not all of the puppies are carriers. can someone please enlighten me as to the ratios of carrier vs. non-carrier traditional? also, what kind of testing is available to determine whether a particular puppy is, in fact, a parti carrier? thanks.

I know they have been working on a test for a long time, but I don't know how reliable this is or anything about it, but if it works it would be wonderful. https://www.animalgenetics.us/Canine...lor/SLocus.asp

With that particular pair, statistically 2 out of the 4 will be a carrier. Notice that I said "statistically." That is the most likely outcome. However, it could also be 1, 3, all four, or even none of them.

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: This too. The one with the more distinctive white patch *could* be a carrier, but you should have her DNA tested to be sure.

thank you so much for your response! unfortunately I had to part with 2 of them. I kept 2 (I have their mom and another adult dog) and of course, one of the ones I gave away was the one with the most distinctive white patch. we kept the littlest and the one with the better temperament (and a floppy ear at 14 weeks!). it was painful to let the other 2 go.

I am curious about why you would ask this question after the fact of placing puppies in homes? Have you sold these dog on full registration and not disclosed the fact of parti carrier in the mating pair?

the litter was registered with the AKC and the puppies went with full registration/breeding rights. I made full disclosure that the daddy was a Parti carrier & I thought that meant that 2 might be carriers but I hadn't done any testing & I wasn't sure which did/didn't have the gene. I guess I'm hoping the 2 I kept are carriers.

yes! when I first posted, I had already checked with the AKC & they had said no. but a YorkieTalk member gave the website and I am definitely going to. thanks!
