"Clicking" sounds from hips/ back legs Hi there, Over the last month or so, maybe two months, we have started to hear a clicking sound (best way I can describe it) when we pick up our 9 month old Yorkie. We can also hear it some times when she jumps up or moves while sitting on us, but mostly when we pick her up. I'm not sure if it's her hips or hind legs but it's coming from that area, I can sometimes feel them "clicking". She is in no discomfort, she has no problems jumping, running or playing so I don't think it's dysphasia. She fine otherwise so I'm at a loss as to what this might be. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this something I should be worried enough about to visit the vet, maybe for X-rays? Thanks! |
If it is loud enough, I would take video on my phone. If not, I would take the dog to the vet and replicate the sound so that they could give some idea what is going on. It certainly does not sound normal. |
Since luxating patella is so very common in yorkies, I'd be thinking it may be that...have the vet palpate her knees next time you are in. |
While there is no hurry in one sense to bring her in - the clicking sound is *abnormal*. Hip dysplasia and or Leggs Calves Perthes disease can have a slow onset. There might be more than one thing going on. LP luxating patella is very common in this breed. Your vet should have already checked every joint - but sadly many vets do not give a proper and thorough examination. Xrays are the only diagnostic tool to definitely identify either HD or LCP. Knees can be diagnosed on physical examination only. |
